Oba Carr was a talented boxer who fell just a tad short of matching the best welterweights of the 90's.

Without doubt, the division has become weaker in recent times, so how would Oba Carr fare today?

Does he have a shot at beating the likes of Mayweather, Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, Quintana, and Williams? Does he finally win a title belt?

By the way, is there a way to change thread titles? I meant to write Oba Carr IN today's welterweight division.

.............I see nothing special at all in either Margarito or Williams. He beats them both. I think Quintana would be a bad fight to watch, with Carr eventually winning a decision.

I think the other three beat him. The only one that has an outside shot at stopping him is Cotto. The other two don't stop fighters at this weight.

I agree that he beats Williams, Margarito and Quintana, and I'm undecided about how fights with Mosley and Cotto go.

I recently watched Carr's fight with Quartey and Carr was gutsy as hell there and even started to gain momentum in the last rounds and push Quartey back. I think he was a little spent by the time of the DLH fight, and I think Trinidad is a much bigger puncher than either Mosley or Cotto, so I don't see them stopping him.

Cotto and Mosley might have the slightest of edges, but I would not be surprised if Oba Carr comes out on top.

Just for the record I'd take Carr to beat the likes of Judah, Spinks, Baldomir, Hatton, Collazo and Clottey as well.

I'd take Mayweather, Mosley, and Cotto over Carr. But they wouldn't have an easy time with him; all would drop some rounds in the process.

Other than that, I'd say he definitely outboxes the likes of Quintana, Margarito, Cintron, and the rest of the lower top 10 guys. They're all good fighters, just not that good. I have no doubt that Carr would be a solid top 5 guy now. This isn't exactly the late 1990s division we're talking about.

Yes, double click the grey area around the next, but don't click on the thread title itself.

No doubt there. He was bordering on the top 5 in the mid to late 90's, so no question he'd be there today.

Win a strap and then lose it after two title defences, he's nothing special either.

Carr would have the same problem he had in the 90's, he couldn't beat the top guys. He was always a very good fighter who came up short when he fought the elite.

Who exactly are the top guys? Because if a 36 year old Mosley is matching it with one of the elites today, I dare say some of the elites today aren't as ELITE as they were in the 90's.

Mosely is a great fighter with longevity. You can't say that fighters are less than elite because of age. Cotto, PBF, Margarito and such are great fighters. I believe the WW division is very deep, and you guys are overrating fighters of the 90's. ODLH, Tito, Quartey and such are great, no doubt, but this era compares quite favorably to them and could go down with just as much fanfare as the 90's era.
