Angel Robinson Garcia comes to mind, fought 238 bouts, lost 83 but was stopped 3 times. Twice on cuts and a KO loss to Alfredo Urbina.
Willie Taylor. Michael Spinks hit this dude with about a million flush left hands and right hands, but it took the the referee to step in to stop it. Willie wasn't even really out on his feet, the referee just knew that if he allowed it to continue Willie would have been eating meals through a straw for the rest of his life. Nobody ever took Spinks' shots as well as Taylor did, a journeyman at best with an unreal capacity to take big shots.
I thought Qawi had a great chin only Holyfield could truly ko him.. The shots he took against a comebacking Foreman were incredibe for being only 5'7 and terribly out of shape in that fight said alot about his chin Doug Dewitt also had a great Chin he took Hearns best shots like nothing,Benn stopped him but he sure took his best shots before finally getting stopped Nate Miller also had a great Chin taking on some good punchers at Cruiser without ever being stopped Al Cole is another one Merqui SOsa at one time was considered to have the best chin in boxing by Ring Magazine the stoppage to Jones was too quick. Hector Lopez also had a great Chin before and was only stopped once by Randall bailey in his last fight but he was clearly past it by then. but it still took a lot of bombs by Bailey to finally stop him,he took the best shots in wars against such bombers as Tszyu,Bollilo gonzalez,Sammy Fuentes and many more. Zack Padilla had an amazing chin also seen him spar alot in the gyms around LA and he went to war in sparring Especially against Mosley and Chicanito. Took Bollilo gonzalez best shots in a thrilling War. Had to retire from a blood clot in his brain while sparring with Shane Mosley. Ray Olivera was a tough gate keeper at Jw WHO went to war with big punchers Tackie,Phillip,Forrest, vivian Harris, Tracy spann was only stopped at the end of his career when he was past it by Hatton and Augustus Scrap Iron Johnson had a great chin and was usually only stopped due to accumalation of shots he warred with the biggest bombers of the 60s and 70s Foreman,Fraizer, quarry and many others Melchor Cob Castro had a great chin taking Carbajal,Chiquita,Pascua and other big punching little guys best shots chin finally wore down when he was older getting stopped by Arce Alberto Jiminez was another little guy with a great chin he lost 2 controversial decisions to 2 big punching flys Mark Johnson and Kittikasem also had an entertaining war with big punching gate keeper Makito Martinez. If any of you fans of the smaller divisions want to see a great scrap between 2 excellent fighters try Jiminez and Too Sharp Johnson i thought it could have gone either way. The only time i ever saw Johnson almost lose in his prime. Jiminez finally got a title when he stopped Baby Jake Matlala.
Another local guy with a great chin was Joey(pasadena Kid)Olivera I saw his fight live in vegas against Mickey Ward and he took hellacious shots from Ward even laughing at him he lost a decision but it was a helluva scrap. He also ate Fred Pendeltons best shots and managed to pull out the win i saw this fight at the Forum ,biggest win of his career and he managed to get ranked after that, but was mostly a journeyman throughout his career. Never knocked down or stopped.
There's some revisionim on Qawi; some claim you could keep him away eith a big shot. Sixto Escobar; never floored or stopped.
I never heard that one before you see some of the bombs Foreman laid on him? Ive seen a number of his fights(probably all his title fights) and the only time i ever saw him hurt was in the 2nd Holyfield fight. Just think about all the top LH and Cruisers he fought that were good punchers. Pretty great Chin if you ask me. I read in an interview that he said Saad hit him the hardest and that he was hurt but Saad didnt know it.
I tink he had a very good chin, just playing Devils Advocate. Spinks gained his respect, but whos respect wouldn't Mike get???
Willie Pastrano..only down once in his career, in his very last fight, and that from a body shot..a left hook to the liver from Jose Torres. Randy Shields...took bombs from Cuevas, Leonard and Hearns..only down, as far as I 'm aware from body shots from Wilfred Benitez. Kid Gavilan..never stopped and down only a couple of times..from Carmine Basilio.
