Not really obscure to hardcore fans, but should get more recognition.

He was ranked as one of the 100 greatest punchers by Ring Magazine.

Another guy who although a Former World champion is largely forgotten(at least on ESB). Jaime Garza 48-6-0-44 kos!!

JG, darren corbett had real power believe me. Seen him KOing billy clyde in the all-irelands and it was like pattersons ko of johannson 3. A very heavy handed guy. Turned pro as a heavyweight but was carrying far too much baggage, still won on his debut in the first minute, and he gradually dropped down to cruiserweight. Now when i say he was carrying baggage (and he was) the tv cameras did him no favours and i swear he looked a lot fatter than what he was (if that makes sense). He just stripped big, if you know what i mean. No real definition or tone although if you stood beside him there is no way you would have thought he was as big looking as he was on tv. At one stage he lost around 5 stone and was even fighting at lightheavy. He won the cruiserweight commonwealth title of a promising englishman called chris okoh, KO'd him in 3 and Okoh never fought again. Had a few management and promoter problems, ended up losing a few fights that he shouldnt have, relying completely on his power, and fought sporadically since. Funny thing is, he could actually box but rarely showed it.

He fought in an AM bill in the US in the early 90s and it was billed as Ireland against US, when in fact it was joe fraziers gym against the Holy Family of belfast. He fought a guy called Green who joe and marvis had real high hopes for and was supposedly a real badass and good prospect. Corbett KO'd him and Frazier really wanted him after that. Dont know the ins and outs but he ended up signing for barry hearn instead. There should be some kinda footage of him on you-tube. Hope this is of help to you

I don't think so JG which is a pity.

Sadly there's very little footage availiable of Bennett or Dave Sands another fantastic idigenous fighter from the same era.

Hopefully one day someone will post some footage.

:lol:Corbett was such a ****. I remember him being a staple of FoxSportsNet's greatest KO episodes a few years back.

Former Irish and Commonwealth cruiser champ from Belfast jg. Still active I believe. A big hitter but something of a slob and arrogant git. Highlight reel from youtube here.....

Another Northern Paddy from the same time who can/could really dig is/was Neil Sinclair. Got starched by Daniel Santos in two back in about 2000 fighting for the WBO welter strap. Knocked Santos down in the 1st and hurt him before his own dubious chin gave out (as it often did). It's on youtube

They reckon that Tiger Williams was a big hitter, even moreso in the gym than the ring. I've never watched him though unfortunately.

Yeah, he could crack alright. Unfortunate that his hands weren't the only heavy part of his anatomy though, if you get my drift. His record suggests that he might not have hit as hard you think on first glance, but you watch him and end up thinking otherwise.

Good highlight vid. He was such a twat though. Speaking of big domestic punchers, they've got highlight videos of the likes of Richard Evatt and Georgie Smith on there aswell. They both produced some great knockouts on the domestic scene themselves.

Guess his edge is: One look at that melted candle body, his opponent can't take him seriously...until he lowers the boom on him.
