Obviously Brock Lesnar is overrated.

I think most peoples problem is that quite a lot of pro-Brock guys assumed he was the best thing since sliced bread (or as he's otherwise known, Mr. E :yep) at Heavy, yet he clearly has a lot of flaws.

IMO, that win was more about Lesnars shortcomings than Velasquez's brilliance. JDS Vs Cain should tell us a lot more about them, and I personally think Brock can come again, and still perform well against the less competent strikers. Fact of the matter is, the mystique about his strength, takedowns, and his own takedown defence (I think a fair few thought Brock would be unshiftable) which I bought into to a degree, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt now.

Big, pretty strong, pretty good double-leg takedown, devastating GNP (when in a dominant position).....not much else.

 

Exactly, too many people thought Brock was essentially immovable with an unstoppable take down. Everyone on here is saying "I've said it all along his stand up is terrible" but a lot aren't admitting that they were under the impression that no one could really keep a fight standing against him. Cain proved that Lesnar's takedowns aren't an unstoppable force.

Good point, I'll confess that I thought this was the case.

Even if his stand-up and defensive BJJ were garbage, I thought that Lesnar's fast takedowns and top control, combined with his strength and size, would be too much for a lot of other heavyweights, including Cain. I also put too much stock in Lesnar's marginally superior amateur wrestling record, when Cain's wrestling experience is both more recent (2006 as opposed to 2000) and better tailored to mixed martial arts.

Lesnar had a real challenge taking Cain down, and even when he succeeded, Cain popped up again without any real difficulty. However when Cain went to take Brock down, he put him on the mat easily and kept him there, landing the ground and pound that swung the fight in his favour.

Brock's terrible striking is now well publicised, but he actually lost this fight in the wrestling, and when that is supposed to be his major advantage as a fighter, it spells big problems for the future.

 

I don't think anyone could argue even before this fight that Brocks stand-up is ****. I knew he was gonna lose as soon as he charged across the ring at the bell and tried to steamroll Cain and Cain just stood there and stopped Brock in his tracks. At that point it was a wrap, only a matter of time and it wasn't long either haha.
