Canelo is gonna beat the pink out of cotto. It will be ugly and cotto won't stick around to talk to max, he will run to the locker room and cry like he always does after losing.
No, not at all. I think Canelo will win on the cards deservedly but competitively if it goes 12. 8-4ish. Cotto has a tendency to fade. I think Cotto will get off to a fast start, and while Canelo isn't as active as a Margarito, he paces himself more evenly than Cotto and he is younger and stronger than Margo, although less active.
Good call man. What really surprised me was how Canelo outboxed Cotto. For the first time he has shown me that he has improved greatly since the Mayweather fight. What also surprised me was how well Cotto's chin held up and how much he took to the head and body without going down. I did not anticipate that. I have heard some people state that Canelo's power is overrated but he had to be around 172 pounds last night and Cotto was probably 159 or 160 and he is 35 years old and has been in many wars. This is the last scenario I envisioned. I could totally see Canelo winning but I thought if he won it would be by stoppage and not a 12 round decision after outboxing Cotto for most of the fight. I disagree with the official scoring and felt it was 116-112 for Canelo. Either way, the right guy won. Congrats to Canelo!
Good call man. Cotto showed a lot of heart and must have been in amazing shape to go 12 rounds and take some really hard shots to the head and body without going down. I didn't see that happening. I thought if he was getting tagged like that he would go down and eventually get stopped.
Good call man. I do believe that Canelo was punching pretty hard last night. I'm not saying he is GGG but he was a 172+ man pounding on a 159/160 pound 35 year old man who had been in many wars and I was impressed with Cotto's durability. He must have been in amazing shape. I don't see the need for Canelo to continue to kill himself to make 155 when he is clearly a Middleweight now and weighs as much or more than other Middleweights do on fight night. He not only seems to want other natural Middleweights to drain themselves down to 155 but he asked Cotto to fight at that weight when he can easily make 154. It's weird, I guess he is insecure about fighting at the full limit of 160 and officially declaring himself a Middleweight. Even small ass Cotto fought Sergio at 159 and Cotto is smaller than Canelo. It seems like an insecurity thing.
Thanks man.:good Canelo is a big puncher, against second tier fighters, but against the top level guys who tend to have better chins, his power is enough to keep them honest and at bay, but he can't usually just blast them out of there. And yeah there's 0 reason he doesn't move up to MW, unless he's just afraid he won't have the obvious size advantage he usually possesses over most of his opponents and therefore his punches will be even less effective on them, it wouldn't shock me if a Lemieux or Lee possibly taking Canelo out at MW before he ever gets to GGG....There's good reason for him to be insecure IMO.
I acknowledged I was wrong. Regardless of boxing IQ, we can't get them all right. What more do you want from me?
I still don't think too many people thought that Cotto at 35 after having tons of wars and being hurt by 140 pound dudes could take the shots he was taking to the head and body over 12 rounds from a 172lb+ heavy handed opponent like Canelo. I think Canelo is insecure about his height. I think that's why he is so reluctant to go up to the full 160. If he was 5'10 or 5'11 he would have committed to 160 already.
While I was hoping for a KO and hyping it all over the site, like I always do.:yep In reality, I figured Cotto would either get stopped late or be able to survive by getting on his bicycle like he did against Pac and Margo, while he didn't survive in those matches, he almost did, and since Canelo isn't as relentless as Margo and Manny, and has his own stamina issues, I figured he probably wouldn't press quite as hard. But to Canelo's credit he did stun Cotto quite a few times, but he'd take his foot off the gas and not go all out.
