Yeah, the more I think about it those smaller dudes like Pacquiao and Torres that hurt Cotto were faster than Canelo and hit him with shots he didn't see coming. I think he saw the hard shots that Canelo hit him with and therefore was able to absorb them better. Canelo to his credit didn't gas in this fight much. Good performance by Canelo but good luck to against GGG. He has nothing over GGG and I see that fight being a late stoppage win for GGG ala the Murray fight. Canelo will have his moments but considering the jab, footwork, IQ, power, timing, accuracy, chin, boxing pedigree and aggression of GGG it's not a good matchup for Canelo.

Cotto has shown in his career that his chin is durable.
He's wobbled and been hurt by single shots, but none of those shots lead to a KO or stoppage.

Both times that Cotto was stopped were on accumulation by Margarito and then Pacquiao, the attrition was just to much for him to withstand. Canelo doesn't have nearly a workrate that Margarito and Pacquiao have so I'm not surprised that Cotto lasted the distance.

I knew Canelo didn't have the work rate of those guys but at the age of 35 now and after having been in those wars you are alluding to (which were many moons ago), I thought that by the 9th or 10th round, if he was taking hard flush shots to the head and body and wasn't able to evade them and win on points that he would get worn down before going the full 12 and losing on points. Again, I underestimated Canelo's improved boxing skills and Cotto's resilience at this stage of his career.

    :good

I had it 115-113 Canelo, and what surprised me most was the fact that Cotto displayed better stamina with consistency over the full 12 than I ever recall seeing from in any fight previously, and I've seen most of his fights. Perhaps there's a fight I'm forgetting, but what made it a little closer (on my card, at least) then what I was expecting was Cotto's having more steam than I'm accustomed to seeing.

Agreed! Cotto is definitely rejuvenated under Roach. He has some fights left in him if he chooses to carry on. I think he should fight at 154 from this point forward. Canelo needs to accept that he is a short Middleweight and can't make 154 anymore and respect the weight divisional limit that he holds the linear title in and fight future opponents at the full 160 lb limit.
