Uncle Al made this fight for a reason. He needs wilder to look legit What better way than go to ol' grandpa ortiz "Listen lou you aint getting no title shot, the bus pass is in the post, I'll throw you a couple of mil all you gotta do is go down in the second" Maybe even throw in a rematch if wilder beats AJ I seen this coming a mile away
Both are Haymon fighters and Haymon signed Ortiz for some reason when he wasn't a draw and despite the failed test OK'ed a rematch, so while I'm not one for conspiracy theories, I can see the logic behind such a move. If there is any kind of controversy at all with this fight leading to a Wilder win, i.e early stoppage, bad score cards etc it will only add fuel to the idea that Wilder is protected and a fraud. Wilder needs to win and win convincingly to build interest and pressure for the Joshua fight.
I thought this as well, but I just don't figure that team Wilder would be dumb enough to set up another dive considering everyone has been calling him out about the Scott/Stiverne dives, and that Ortiz is the type of guy that takes a dive. Maybe in a rematch, so they can continue to stiff Whyte/Hearn, Ortiz takes a dive? Nothing like a trilogy to get US interest in heavyweight boxing again and keep Matchroom US from stealing their thunder.
Ortiz aint going down. There's Deontay's first problem of many. ps Scuba Scott took all those pearls away.
There is exactly 0% of that happening. Ortiz isn't a blithering idiot. He stands to make vastly more by becoming champ than Haymon could ever afford to pay him to take a dive. Taking a dive would make absolutely no sense. I appreciate people don't like Wilder, there is plenty to dislike, but they need to stop making crazy conspiracy theories. If Wilder wins, and I'm about 50/50 on the fight (if it happens), then he deserves credit. It's clear that some people have so little intellectual honesty that they will say "I told you so" no matter what happens. If Wilder loses, they'll say "ha ha, told you so, he's an overrated bum". If he wins, those same people are preparing to say "ha ha, told you so, they paid Ortiz to take a dive." Just grow up people.
If Ortiz does a Scuba Scott it will be obvious (as it was with Scuba) and Wilder will be laughed at even more than he is now. Even his few dozen fans will turn against him. Hopefully this will be a fair fight and hopefully granpa Ortiz will prove that being old can be overcome if you're much more skilled than your very limited opponent.
It's Wilder who might take a sudden interest in the noble sport of diving once he feels King Kong's power. The horror he's going to feel when he realizes Molina and Duhaupas were not top-2 challengers after all.
Ortiz going down from a phantom punch is not out of the question- I suggested this half joking a few weeks ago. If it does happen I would not at all be suprised.
