I believe this guy is the best opponent Vitali will have fought since Lewis in 2003. My question is does he deserve the fight? Are his wins good enough to warrent a title shot.

Yep I agree. I was just wondering what people thought. Like most contenders he has a few wins over good solid fighters (Welliver, Austin etc) but in other division this makes a prospect, not a title challenger. I wanna see top 10 heavys fight one another.

If you believe Solis is the best opponent for Vitali since Lewis, than I think you answered your own question.

You know, Solis has been hyped a LOT on these boards. So, I decided to watch his most recent fight live (against Ray Austin). I was shocked by what I saw. A whale plodding around the ring, having a great deal of trouble with Austin (the guy Wlad KO'd in 2 rounds using 1 hand).

If that is the same Solis who shows up against Vitali, Solis gets absolutely destroyed.

Indeed, Vitali is three inches taller than Austin and better in every category.

Something else people don't understand: Even if Solis comes in shape for this one fight, it will only solve part of the weight problem. If a fighter comes into campe severely overweight and needs the camp to get from obese to a somewhat decent weight, how can he use the camp to hone his skills, work on accuracy, subtleties? Losing 40 pounds is a burden on the body and changes bodymechanics. Fighters who face Vitali would need a training camp completely devoted to speed, great movement, accuracy etc. to ever get past that weird jab and leaning back defense.

Solis is a good prospect but he honestly pulled an Areolla great fighter that ate his way out of the title

these 2 ahd the goods but they got fat and lost to Vitali (yeah im calling this way in advance)

Vitali has fought plenty of good fights during the comeback

Peter, solid champ just KO'd Maskaev and beat Toney twice Vitali beat him without a tune up

Gomez a cruiser champ and had good wins at the weight minus his only loss to wins over McCal and a win over Virchis, lotta ppl said Gomez was too fast for the old and injured Vitali

Areolla undefeated contender lotta hope lotta heart one of HBOs most viewed fights of that yr and it was a good scrap

Solis is not Vitalis best opponent since Lewis I think that goes to Sanders

Talented no questions asked, big, strong, can punch hard, has the technical know how....and yes in terms of talent and skills he is the best fighter Vitali will have face since Lewis in June 2003 BUT...and its a big BUT Solis has been coming in overweight (i.e to much bodyfat) thus making his workrate and overall conditioning in the ring poor. He labours about, doing just enough which is literally what Vitali loves in a fighter, as it gives Vitali time to think and move whilst throwing his hard arm punches.

I think Vitali wins via decision, and makes it look easy which is a shame as Solis is so much better than getting beat easy.

I thought Solis looked poor in his recent fight against R. Austin.

Fighters to be excited about at the moment is Robert Helenius, Kubret Pulev....6'6 and 6'4 respectively and have improved generally fight by fight.

I think Solis has a shot at a close decision on his best day! But, that won't be anytime this year. Solis is the picture perfect Nu school HW. Fat, outta shape with limited work ethic. **** the HW division. Who cares. Look at any HW pre- 1977 and you don't see bodyfat vs lack of skill as the norm in a bout. It's sickening to watch all these scrubs insult and contribute to the demise of the HW!

It should be interesting to see Vitali and Solis side by side at the press conference. I don't think Solis is the listed 6′ 1½″, I think he's a little shorter, judging by the pics below.

There is a large height difference in this fight. Of course height alone means nothing, many fighters have proven that. However, Vitali is excellent at using his height to his advantage. I see Vitali pounding away on Solis from the outside, and winning via KO, or TKO in 7-9 rounds.

Vitali vs Vlad even motivates me less to watch the HW division because now we really know nothing is happening.

Solis has about as much a chance as Danny Boi Williams.
