....came in at 272lbs for the Tony Thompson rematch. :bart

Credit to TT for the stoppage victory. He probably couldn't have afforded to let it go to the scorecards in Oner country anyway.

This fight is another clear example of excess weight being detrimental to a fighters career. I've never understood why some fans have mistaken a boxers ability to go 12 rounds as being sufficient and saying that boxing isn't a beauty contest or bodybuilding and making excuses for fighters who show up in such bad shape.

Guys like Solis, Arreola and Ruiz Jr will never be genuine contenders, never seriously threaten to win a title even when they get title shots. Fact is if you are showing up in such a state you can right them off ever winning a title unless they have Foreman like power and skills to go with that huge gut and even then you'll need the right opponent and a ton of luck.

One doesn't have to have a low bodyfat percentage to be in shape for boxing but one cannot be out of shape either. Larry Holmes, Chagaev, Foreman, Ibragimov, Greg Page and several others weren't exactly fitness models. Even fighters like Goyo Vargas, Roberto Duran and Tony Ayala Jr. weren't exactly lithe.

True, I don't expect every heavyweight boxer to show up ripped like Bruno or Wlad. But when people are saying it's OK for a fighter who is clinically obese or close to it as being in acceptable shape that's just plain idiotic.

People used to tear into Bowe for showing up 10-15lbs overweight yet people would say if only Arreola showed up at 230lbs he would be a world beater or close to it, when at 230lbs he'd still be in terrible shape.

Any pro heavy should at least be showing up with the type of body fat that is deemed healthy which is 20% or below. Nobody with that level of body fat will be close to ripped but 20% body fat for guys like Arreola, Solis or Ruiz Jr would require a gastric band.

This is surely the end of him. He will forever be an example of wasted potential, nothing more. The guy just did not have the discipline.

Yes he's done. His own promoter has said the same and said he will now throw Solis to the wolves and use him to pad out the records of up coming fighters. When your own promoter is saying you are a journeymen it's clear it's over. No more easy paydays for Solis.

Can't really blame Oner for being annoyed he's spent a lot of time and money in trying to get Solis to reach his potential. He got a shot at Vitali when he had done little to deserve it, supported him after he was injured and when he lost to Thompson gave him the opportunity to avenge the loss, resetting the date numerous times probably in the hope that Solis would get himself in shape. Instead Solis showed up at a career high weight and looked worse than ever.

You used Foreman as an example yet he was lean and mean when he actually won big fights.
His win over Moorer was almost a miracle, down like 9-0 on the cards.
He lost to Schultz, but was given a Helenius/Chisora type decision.

Surely, even fat Ruiz/Arreola/Solis could beat Schultz properly....oh wait....NM....he would slaughtered any version of them.:lol::lol:
