Yeah, that's wishful thinking on my part. They actually signed to fight (I think it was last year) but Oquendo pulled out.
Don't get your hopes up for this october 9th fight to be a Rahman or Tua type fight this fight will be on Fox Sports Net on Top Rank Live so I'd expect it to be a tomato can type fighter. But, I am glad to see Odlanier Solis back he is freakisly talented if he dedicates himself to be in shape look out.
About damn time. I was wondering what he was doing these days. The man needs to wise up and get into shape if he wants to be champ. Look at him when he fought haye and Ibragimov in the amateurs. Simply brilliant. Speed, footwork, power, head movement, the man had it all. Now look at him...
Totally agree with you! Solis is one of the best ( probably the most accomplished heavyweight amateur ever after Cuban legends Stevenson and Savon ). He beat numerous stars in the amateurs and had incredible accuracy, timing, chin, footwork, tecnique and power for just being 6'1 or 6'2!!! I will tell you this, the Solis of the 2004 Olympics, will beat up any heavyweight today ( including the K brothers ), he was simply incredible. But, like many Cubans who enter fredom for the first time, temptations, food, beer, parties and women get the best of them. I was so exited when I heard that he had defected, he is Cuba's best hope for a Heavyweight World Champion but since I started seeing his lack of dedication, that let me down. However, I still feel even Solis being 40 pounds overweight he is still a tremendous fighter and has'nt lost his accuracy, technique, chin and has more punching power as well. He has silenced all his critics and keeps on winning and stopping guys like Barrett, Drumond easily. He has'nt fought since March 20, and I was wondering why he was'nt fighting. I have hopes that maybe he has lost some weight, as he has been missing in action for 5 months, which is plenty of time to lose weight. Heck, he is so talented that he does'nt have to lose 40 pounds, not even 30, with just 10-15lbs off he will be much better! Even at 270lbs, Solis is a solid tank with unmatched amateur credentials. Something that many HV's today would love to have, for us Cubans, Solis is our best hope but he definitely needs to take it more seriously and come in better shape. :good Good to see him fighting again, even if it's against an unknown fighter!
did you know that jean pascal and odlanier solis share the same group of trainer? He's being trained by Pedro Diaz, Russ Anber and Marc Ramsay. Ramsay said in a interview somewhere that he was very impressed by Solis, saying that his shape is very misleading.
So the version of Solis who won gold in Athens would beat today's versions of the Klitschko's! atsch The same guy who was running from Alexander Alexeev for the last minute of their fight to save his two point lead. Kuu-ba uber alis, I suppose...
