I just saw this fight, and I can't express how disappointed I am in Solis. Welliver has tits bigger than me mom, and he was able to out slick the Cuban at times! The stoppage was a disgrace as well, Welliver was in trouble but he was firing back. And this is supposed to be a future force at heavyweight?
Oh man, I wanted to see this fight really bad. Even though Welliver is not in the best of shape, I always root for him because he is from my neck of the woods. He lives in Spokane and I live in Rockport. I really hope to meet him one day.
Solis doesn't want to get into shape. At least we've got Gomez as a Cuban HW hope, unfortunately he laze the last 7 years and already 35...
Welliver is a talented fighter. He is not world class but he can be very slick at times; and he is a great guy. My friend grew up with the Wellivers and his brother is also a pretty damn talented fighter; not to mention his dad (who was also). He's an all around classy guy. He was happy with this fight because now he has enough money to get a house for his mom was what I was told a couple days ago.
It's a damn shame to see Solis in such bad shape, but i didn't think this was a bad performance at all. It's clear that Solis is not a big hitter and this makes him look a lot less impressive than other prospects. However, he does have fast hands, snappy punches and combinations, and a solid defence. Welliver is a very durable, tough guy with fast hands but way overweight and no footwork, but was outclassed throughout the entire fight, the first round being the exception. I thought the stoppage was good. He was not competitive or in the fight in any way, and lost the last 8 rounds by a large margin, and was defenselessly being pounded in a corner. Solis won't be the next great heavyweight, but he'll be a good contender. I'm just hoping he can get his damn weight down, such waste...
Good for him then. So long as he is ok with the outcome. I really do need to meet this guy, or at least get him on the phone seeing as in how we live relatively close.
I heard many of Solis's fights were fixed or/and against opponenets who didn't wanna be there.I admite I haven't seen much of him
Even if Solis lost weight I'd have serious doubts about him being a force at world class. He seems to lack power in a big way. I don't know if its because he's lost the speed and explosiveness to his punches, but he does not seem to be packing a punch at even this level.
i saw this fight live on TV and it was such a ****ing joke. Felt bad for the fans in the arena. Solis needs a ****ing reality check. you defected from your country, left your family behind, gave up everything you had, start acting like it jackass.
What disappoints me most in him is his lack of ring generalship. I've just seen the Van Sickle "fight" and that was even more horrible. Someone get Solis in against a live body.
