These two combatants met in the 2001 World Championships and Solis won by stoppage. Even though that Haye managed to " dazzed " Solis in the opening round, Solis showed great legs and chin by staying alive. Not only that, but Solis showed, guts, heart and desire as he came back incredibly strong in rounds 2 and 3 and stopped Haye in his tracks by accumulation of punches, that if the referee would'nt had stopped the fight Haye most probably would have ended KO'ed...

That was in 2001 and things have changed drastically. Solis, has managed to put on an impressive 50 to 60 pounds since then, but has managed " somehow " to still keep his impressive speed, has increased his KO power, his stamina is also good and has accumulated a pro record of 16-0, stopping Monte Barrett in 2 rounds ( way more impressive than Haye ), and making Carl Drumond " quit on his stool " in his last time out. Ranked #2 by the WBC, Solis is scheduled to face next the #1 contender Ray Austin with a very possible Title Shot followed after that...

Haye on the other hand, has also managed to put on more muscle and more power. He still posesses great skills and some speed too. He has managed to get a hold at the WBA Title defeating the Russian giant Valuev by points. No doubt, Haye has faced the better " professional " opposition but Solis has immense advantage in the amateur stage...

Question: As of right now, who wins a professional match between Odlanier Solis and David Haye? :good

I think they'r e both pretty much a fraud and that's a pickem. I used to have high expectations for Solis but his work is just dsisappointing.

Why dissapointing? Agreed, Solis has'nt dropped weight but his performance is actually very good. He stopped Barrett like nothing and made Drumond quit last time out... :-(

Don't judge Solis solely on his weight issues, he is way more skilled, experienced and talented than Haye... :good

Haye is scared of Solis, memories don't go away. Impressive how Solis came back in the 2001 World Championships and stopped Haye, will do more of the same if given the opportunity.

Totally agree, Solis is solid as a tank and can do it all in there...

Depends purely on Solis' weight and conditioning IMO. I don't doubt for a second that Odlanier's got the skill to win, but at his current weight Haye's speed advantage is just too much for me to go against David at this point. He's shown he won't hesitate to fight a boring fight to win, and it'd be up to Solis to pursue him. If Solis can drop 20 lbs to improve his movement and conditioning...then, it gets really interesting. I'd probably go with him via knockout if he can get into the 240's/low 250's. Much bigger than that, and I don't think he catches Haye. :thumbsup

Even with Solis' overweight I give him a 60 to 70% chance to beat Haye.
Haye would be afraid to trade with him, and Solis can wait for a good punch and KO him.
It's like Bowe wanting no part of Lewis because of their amateur past.

Solis is an excellent fighter but I wonder if he doesn't feel like he has the motivation to be in shape. After accomplishing all he did in the amateurs, he might just not be that interested in showing up in top shape against a Carl Drumond or a recently stopped and highly shopworn Barrett. He got a wicked one over Barret and it looked great but he was so sadly overweight. I think he needs the motivation of fighting another undefeated fighter like himself. I think he needs to fight a Ustinov or a Boytsov to really get up for it. Or, a shot at a title against a big name like Haye? If he lets a bunch of hamburgers get in the way of his career, it's a monumental waste of talent. Haye? Say what you will about him, but in 24 fights he's become an undisputed CW champ and grabbed a strap at HW. And he looks like a world class athlete when he shows up. It's a you-pickem fight to me.

Gotta tell you, Fat F/ck wasn't caught by a single solid shot in his last couple of fights, vs. his best opposition as a pro, and wasn't really slow either. A weight of 235 would do wonders to his mobility, stamina, output and accuracy, but at the morbid 270, he's not that bad either. The Klitschkos would beat him silly, but Haye doesn't have Vitali's punch estimation and output, nor Wladimir's solid defense and machine like jab, and unlike Valuev, the elite skilled Odlanier Sumolis would be able to use physical advantages. He's a very smart guy, adapts quicky and goes for the openings, and Haye offers a lot.

With that said, Haye is faster right now and his mobility and reach could trouble Solis who fights a full class below his actual abilities, there are some serious skills under the fat, but I'd favor Haye at the moment.

Haye and it's not a difficult choice for me. Whilst I agree Solis is a talent his lack of dedication and string of seemingless wins don't inspire me at this stage that he can cope at the top level. He seems lazy and unmotivated half the time.

I'm a big David Haye fan, but a fully motivated and in-shape Solis would beat him (Imo) and I would imagine that a fight with David would encourage Solis to be on top form!!

    Solis via mid rounds ko/tko!

I'd make a 220lb Solis favourite, but in his current lardass incarnation i reckon Haye would win by late KO/stoppage. Solis can get away with being 40 or 50 lbs overweight against 2nd and 3rd rate fighters, but against Haye he would need to be in top-class shape.

Solis is terrible. He's immobile, and obese.
I'm sick of these fighters where people have to preface their predictions with..."an in shape, motivated"...
These people are never in shape! They are never motivated!

We need to just open up a "fat people" division, and then James Toney, and Odlandier Solis, and Chris Arreola, and Eddie Chambers, etc. can all fight each other. That way we can get rid of the whole "training" aspect and these guys can duke it out on a even playing field. It's like the special Olympics but for people with food addiction.
