You're wrong. Thompson his record stands at 39-4, so that will be 40-4 after Wilder.

    116-112 Solis is pretty bad.

Did pretty much every single viewer among us breathe a sigh of relief in unison and start grinning (and thinking "hehehe...eat ****, jerky turks...") when the commentator remarked "the promoter looks rather unhappy, maybe Thompson did get it... :think" - effectively giving us the result before the ring announcer bungled through his official reading of the cards?

I scored the main event for Thompson, 9-3 rounds, 117-111 points. I gave Solis rounds 2, 10, and 11. I thought only the 1st (little action) and 12th rounds were difficult to score. For the majority of the fight, Thompson was the more aggressive fighter, moving forward, initiating exchanges, frequently backing up Solis. Thompson's jab and straight left to the head were sharp and effective, even though Solis kept his hands up; while Thompson's pace and overall punch output were not great, they were better than those of Solis, and he controlled the action with his punches, and clearly fought the fight he wanted. Solis fought a very lazy fight; he very rarely initiated exchanges, but also was not countering Thompson anywhere near enough. He did occasionally back up Thompson or snap his head with single or combo counters, and he won the 2nd with one good combo flurry early in the round. But whether due to laziness or his obvious poor conditioning, he seemed dependent on very small numbers of showy but brief flurries to try to win rounds. It was only in the last three rounds, after Solis knew he was losing the fight, that he started pressing the action, initiating exchanges, driving back Thompson, whose own output noticeably decreased in the 10th and 11th. In the 12th, Thompson rallied to clinch the fight by starting and ending the round strongly with his jab and straight left, while in between Solis mustered a couple of countering flurries.

Parenthetically, I think this fight showed that open scoring can indeed have a positive, beneficial influence on a fight. When Thompson knew he was losing through 4 rounds, he stepped up his pace in the middle rounds. Then when Solis knew he was losing through 8 rounds, he in turn stepped up to give his best performance of the fight in the final 3 rounds. I still do not like open scoring, but I am glad it was used this time, it actually made this a better fight.

    Frauds, the pair of them.

If Solis wasn't from Cuba people would give him the criticism he deserves. Not sure why, but being from Cuba automatically sees some people pulling their plonker.

One of the worst fights I've seen all year.

They should bring in some sort of rule that only allows people who are willing to get in shape to fight at heavyweight. It's an absolute disgrace. A few fighters apart, the entire division is a farce.

Fat guys throwing arm punches is not boxing, it shouldn't be sanctioned.

I'd like to see Browne-Thompson on the card with Chisora-Fury.

I was thinking that the open scoring played a big part in Thompson getting the win, even though the judges had it wider than they should the first time he upped his workrate alot

Thing is one day if they keep using it a big name is gonna get KO'd and blame open scoring and it will eventually stop being used, or someone gets brain damage because they went for the KO knowing they were losing
