I didn't see it but I heard he stopped him with a body shot. Did anyone see Erislandy Lara on the undercard? How did he look?
Olandier is a very hard world class puncher , who just needs to start acting a bit more professional in his approach to training........ He will never be a Felix Savon Fabre, or a Roberto Balado...
Solis needs to lose the spare tire to be taken seriously. Though even some of the world champs don't take things seriously, so who knows, he may win a belt even with the gut.
It's tough to expect a Cuban heavyweight to stay in shape with no weight limit once he turns pro. He's probably just now discovered marvels like KFC, Burger King, and he like. It looks like The King's been hired on as his nutritionist.
the guy he fought was the definition of a tomato can and he basically folded the first time solis touched him
I think of all the up and comers, Solis is, by far, the most exciting and has the most potentail. I think he would take Arreola, Dimi, and maybe even Povetkin out. I just hope someoen can get through to him on the condition he needs to be in for his fights. Cause once he steps up to the upper levels, that bodyfat he don't seem to have the discipline to lose is going to really hinder his stamina, and even balance, if he is taken into later rounds, in a grueling fight with a world class heavy..........
I agree with you that the sky's the limit for Solis, it's just a matter of whether he wants a belt badly enough to really dedicate himself to it. For some guys, just making a good living is enough and he's certainly got the talent to continue doing that beating up journeyman types and fringe guys without needing a ton of dedication and discipline. How he'll handle a 10 or 12 rounder vs top level opponent? That's the big question. Hopefully he get hungry for a belt like he is for those Whoppers. :good
I don't care for Arreola, but you guys are hittin' the f*ckin' pipe if you think Solis can beat him...just because he KO1d some ham & egger...what about when he goes the "distance" with the other ham & eggers. Arreola would kick his ass good. Solis might have been all that in the ams, but he's got a long way to go.
Damn Suge, we've been agreeing a bit here lately. I second this. I cannot take Solis seriously until he gets below 240, this guy was only 210-215 four or five months before he turned pro. Also this talk of his power is way way over done. He hasn't fought the opposition that Arreola has thus far, and has looked only ok vs the guys who stayed around to the final bell. Also his power has dropped off a bit since his early tear. Heavyrighthand, to suggest that Solis is potentially better than Povetkin is a joke. Who the hell has Solis dominated that is anything approaching Povetkin's comp?
i just watched this fight again (granted it only takes like 2 minutes but im still a masochist for doing it) and im pretty sure this **** was rigged... after "van sickle" falls down he looks at his corner with that look "that enough? or more?"... then he makes the count but the ref stops the fight anyway, i don't think van sickle got the memo that he needed to stay down the whole time van sickle also threw like 2 jabs the entire duration of the fight, he wasn't even winging power punches like u would expect a tomato can to do (ie peter mcneeley) arreola would destroy solis right now, he's actually been in real fights with guys that fought back... and sure he's padded his record but at least it was in america against fighters who actually tried versus germany where the promoters aren't even willing to risk an "accident" happening so you get these sham 1 round ko's on your record to look good... watch the fight and tell me you don't agree that was totally fixed
Solis weighed in at 256, the guy needs to take it more seriously, If a fighter has problems managing his weight, theres no way his gone get to the elite level of the sport.
