Of his contemporaries, he's falls behind Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley.. and would probably be the #4 fighter of his generation.

1) Hopkins was Prime at 43 years-old

2) Read Joe's biography were he praises Roy back in his prime and basically discusses how impossible it would be to beat him.

3) Joe's promoter kept him from going to America to fight risky fights like Jones, Hopkins, or any of those guys. To Joe's credit, I think he wanted to fight them, but the smart thing to do from a money perspective was to fight Euro-bums.

4) If by beating Hopkins, Calzaghe now owns "his scalps" .. well that would make it impossible to figure out rankings within divisions.

^^^^I don't get it if Hopkins was a prime 43 year old cause he was top 3 p4p then why he said Whitaker was a shot old man when Whitaker was top 3 p4p when he fought De la hoya?

 

HOYA was a good ''A'' level fighter that has accomplished great things in his career and deserves his high praises but he's failed to deliver against the very best he fought, for the most part at least....

 

But bro...all his losses were very close and we all know that he really won against Trinidad plus Mosley II....

With those kinds of fights, not sure that the proclaimed best boxers today would have won all of those tough ones too....
