I honestly think Canelo may have dropped the belt because he didn't want to give GGG the 55/45 split in a fight that he could lose.

Supposedly they have a verbal agreement in place for next September. That is plenty of time for Canelo to fight BJS and then do a mega promotion for Canelo-GGG. I do not think GGG will get there first as BJS is looking for big money. BJS though has the tools for a major upset over Canelo. It is going to be fun if that happens but bad for GGG who also wants a big pay day.

I wouldn't trust Canelos word obviously though.

i think right now 70-30 at a catch weight of 157 with no belts on the line, with a rematch clause for the belts at 160.

Well they have a point and it makes sense from Canelo/GBP's side to make that offer.

Why doesn't Canelo take a 50-50 split since that will probably be his highest pay day?

Because he's not desperate for paydays and he can make good money in easier fights.

This! There's no point in arguing that it's a good offer or a bad offer until we know exactly how much is offered.

    PPV history:
Canelo vs Khan did 350 - 600k ppv buys, depending who you asked.
GGG vs Lemieux did 97 - 150k ppv buys, again dependent on the source.

Ratio is about 80:20 in Canelo's favour. Resume is similarly in Canelo's favour.

Canelo lost fans, and GGG gained popularity with the whole belt drop situation. Also, GGG - Brook has increased GGG's popularity far more than Canelo - Smith is doing for Canelo. Hence I would say 70:30 is fair, with any split from 60:40 to 80:20 reasonable.

What sort of flat fee does that amount to?

Let's say Canelo - GGG brings in $60 million revenue (Canelo - Cotto did $58 million for comparison). 20% of that is $12 million, however as there is no financial risk for GGG and his team you would expect the figure to be reduced a bit.

Amir Khan got $6 million ($2 million flat + UK ppv) to fight Canelo. On one hand it was really a cash out, on the other hand the GGG fight is bigger. So in my opinion: $8-12 million or so is a reasonable offer.

By the time this fight happens everything will be subject to negotiation,

My feeling is that Canelo will lose drawing power and leverage from this point going forward, especially if he struggles with somebody you will hear the air just leaving the balloon. It's happened plenty of times in boxing

The GGGirls don't understand that though

Canelo has the real championship while GGG has paper belts

You realize most of Ring's belts are vacant?

Nobody in their right mind ranks Ring's belt over big 4.

    Hey man,

    Yeah, he is.

I like how he handles himself.

He's totally different to Carl. But he has a huge ego and an importance of self-worth, and he's not going to be pushed around by GBP. If by this time next year he's holding the WBO belt, he's not going to back down.

I'm trying to stay optimistic, but I think this fight will be extremely hard to make.

Oscar is trying his hardest to put obstacles in the way, the thing is he don't need to.

The boxing world knows Canelo ducked Golovkin and we have pretty much moved on, Canelo and Oscar seem haunted by the decision to drop the WBC title and run away and continue to talk all things Golovkin, offers, weight, dates.

It's bizarre behaviour, they are haunted and know that Canelo's reputation is shredded and even worse his reputation is shredded in his own country, fellow Mexicans are embarrassed by Canelo and insult him.

GGG is being paid very very well for Brook and if as expected he puts on a dazzling display he may will get the same sort of payday (maybe more) for another fight here in the UK against Eubank Jr.

I don't believe he dropped the belt because of the split.

    1. He could have dropped the belt much sooner than he did.

    2. They didn't even negotiate and went straight to Smith.

That verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it's not written on. Ha! It means nothing. There's more value in a pinky promise with a 4 year old.

I'm a big fan of Billy's. He'd definitely fancy his chances against Canelo. In fact, I'd favour him.

I think K2 would have to offer Billy huge money, potentially taking a hit, to try and give him more leverage in negotiations with Oscar if he won.

If Canelo were to get Billy's belt, I think we could kiss goodbye to a GG fight. That's my personal opinion.

Youre crazy. Joe Calzaghe was the lineal champion at 175 when he fought Roy Jones despite not having one trinket from the big 4 you speak of. Lol

You can't offer a flat fee, that's utter BS and a duck.
This fight will do 900k+ PPVs and tons of foreign TV license fees + sell out Cowboys stadium.

Is Oscar gonna offer K2 35$ millions flat?

Yeah, but these haters are only going to focus solely on GG's purse and nothing else.

Just because Oscar is going to offer him his biggest payday, it doesn't mean it's going to be a fair offer. But we'll have to wait and see.
