Just saw it now. It seemed reasonable to me, for what that's worth.

I'm not sure if comparing Canelo-Khan to Golovkin-Lemieux is the fairest of comparisons, despite being their most recent PPV endeavors. Canelo's proven a bit of a hotter commodity when given a dance partner with better credentials than Khan. So I think with the "expected" magnitude of Canelo-GGG, a better comparison may have been Cotto-Canelo.

Barring that aside, everything you wrote still seemed very well reasoned and fair to me. I definitely think you're in the right ballpark, and I think splitting the difference to $10 million seems near the mark.

But then again, WTF do I know?

In fairness, you can say the exact same think about Gennady and "his word". Or most boxers' "words" for that matter. They're like politicians, always changing their mind and contradicting previous comments with changing times and circumstances.

You do realize the 55\45 split is only if the fight goes to the purse bids right? There was still a week to go before the purse bids were ordered when Canelo vacated the title.

Again, we'll have to see what happens. But it should be easy enough to work out whether or not the offer is fair.

I have a feeling that Ward is making a lil bit more money than Kov and that Kov does not care. He's not making a lot more than Kov like some believe, and Kov I think gave in to Ward's demands just to get the fight.

    I'm in agreement with you.

I'm fine with a flat fee as long as it's fair. Again, we'll have to wait and see and we'll have to work it out. But I'm pessimistic due to how Oscar's handled the situation so far. As soon as I saw his quote, I couldn't help but think that he'll purposely low ball him to avoid the fight.

    We shall see.

it's pretty pointless for Goldy to even say something like that about a purse split when the fight is what...a year away? a whole lot can change by the time they actually negotiate a possible fight.

You don't even have a clue to the purse, and you're already trying to speak for Kov or what he gave in to? Talking out of your :ciappa: as usual.

Yep, I agree. GGG, Loeffler and Sanchez sometimes talk plenty of nonsense too.

However, I think you misquoted me in this post - I did not write that paragraph bashing Canelo. Moanamchara wrote it.

I think he liked the idea of parading around as the lineal champ. But what did he pay in step aside fees?

He obviously had no intentions of defending it against GG. Or he did, but Oscar certainly didn't. They'd have been better off relinquishing it instead of letting his reputation take a hit. The whole situation was just a joke that could have been prevented. They said the WBC were being unreasonable with their deadlines, even though they'd known about them for months. Then they said they were dropping the belt to make negotiations easier. Yet they didn't have any and went straight for Smith.

I'm not confident that we're going to see this fight.
