Because Canelo was not going to campaign at MW immediately, so he did the right thing and gave that joke of a title back.

Sure Canelo could have paid off the WBC like other fighters have who get to skip their mandtories for years at a time, but why bother. He'll get it back on Sept. 16 2017 when he beats GGG. bank on that.

 

So he's waiting GGG to pass 35?why not fight him in 2022, let the fight marinate and wait for GGG to turn 40? 2017 is too soon imo

 

I'm not sure he's waiting for him to be over 35, but they are waiting for MX Independence day in 2017 to have the mega fight. MX independence day is one year and one day from today, and 16 months since Canelo fought Khan. Is 16 months toooo long for you?

 

Not the best fight at 154. Andrade, both Charlos, and Lara rematch would be better. Lara might deserve a rematch because most people thought he was robbed when the judges gave the decision to Canelo, and it was close either way you look at it. But nobody wants to see a rematch after the way Lara stunk up the joint and Lara has only himself to blame for that. Still, those other fights are totally viable if Canelo wants to stay at 154.

 

Not sure Haymon would want to make any of his JrMWs sacrificial lambs for Canelo. As far as the Lara fight, MOST people interviewed felt Canelo won, including Lara's stable mates.

 

It's probably the most entertaining fight for Alvarez at 154....and Oscar's not lying...Canelo's ovaries are indeed asking him to fight at 154.

 

Why would the weakest beltholder be the obvious fight to make especially after just dumped a title claiming he did not need one?
