Delahoyas resume is a whos of 130-160 BUT against the very best he was proven to be not quite the best AND he always had the advantages. P4P he is good but lost to smaller and/or older men, he got gifts aswell as having decisions go against him
Oscar is one of my favorite all time fighters. The best pure boxer of the 1990s. top 50 p4p all time. I thought oscars amazing 10-8 12th round near knockout victory of quartey won the fight for oscar by 1 point. I had oscar beating whitaker by 2 points. Oscar rates # 10 welterweight of all time on my list.
I think the PBF vs 35 year old DLH fight proved oscar in his prime would have clearly beaten mayweather.
Delahoya vastly benefited from the fight being at 154, 3-4weights over Mayweathers best weight (130-135). Mayweather won 9 rounds anyway because Delahoya was so ineffective missing most of his shots. In his prime Delahoya didnt use his right hand and had a worse defense making him easier to fight from a technical standpoint. Put the fight near to both fighters prime weight at 140 and watch Delahoya get embarrased
Mayweather did not win 9 rounds, he won 6-7 rounds agaisnt a much slower rusty old oscar. your just making exuses. its a late 1990s oscar who would have embarrased floyd.
your right, in his prime he threw far greater fluid accurate combinations that no one could handle. the old oscar lost his combination punching skills.
The fact is though - that Oscar was winnin' and then Floyd adjusted, on the strength of that fact, whats there to say that Floyd wouldnt do that in a fight against prime Oscar?? Floyd is a great fighter , theres no denying that. Im not a Floyd or an Oscar fan, just a question Suzie
He missed all his combinations against Whitaker though, and Quartey schooled him making him look like an amateur. Delahoya looks great when fighters come to him without any head movement or lateral movement. BUT roll and counter and he looks a fool. Step back and time a jab or right, he looks silly Shoeshinning is not fluidity :yep
well if a old rusted past his prime oscar gave floyd that much trouble, makes you wonder how much better a prime lean oscar would do. I think alot better. Oscar fight left a bad mark on floyds legacy, because now hes not the dominant ATG everyone thought he was, he is not better than oscar de la hoya. oscars legacy went up.
quartey didnt school him, all he did was outjab oscar. quartey was very good in his prime. oscar still won the fight fair and sqaure, the 12th round won it for him. the ref was 1 second away from stopping the fight granting a TKO victory for oscar in the 12th
Suzie , i understood what you said, Oscar was past his best and did well against Floyd, so therefore he would have won in his prime. I dont see this as that easy though, because in this fight, Floyd was getting beat by attacks behind the jab, and then he ADJUSTED his tactics and clearly won the fight. Dont you think, seen as though Floyd is clearly a great fighter, that he would be able to do this against a prime Oscar?? Im not saying he would, but its more than possible
He never schooled him, nowhere near, but i had him winnin' by 1 point, if the ref woulda stopped it in the last that would not have been good, he was clearly fighting back all the way throughout Oscar's rally. The ref did right there
Put the fight at 140, Mayweather does far better and Delahoya does far worse. Mayweather didn't even need to move into third gear against Delahoya so the point is moot. The fact is Mayweather may have been purposely trying to not beat Delahoya too badly in order to get a big money rematch Mayweather is a natural 130lb fighter and Oscar is a natural 147lber who always added 14lbs on fight night to his weigh in weight. Delahoya got to outweigh Mayweather by 16lbs on fight night, got to choose the gloves, the ring size, got the best nutrition and training money could buy. And he still missed all his shots, got outlanded by 100 punches, and lost 9 rounds.
Oscar got his face boxed off but won a few late rounds big, that doesn't win a fight. Round by round he lost the majority of the rounds missing punches and getting a jab painting a picture all over his face, the Oscarsexuals love so much (couldn't resist using that term Oscar only won the fight in biased fans eyes or those who dont score objectively. Check out these facts: 1. Arrum made Quartey wait 2years for the fight, telling Quartey he couldnt fight other fighters or he would lose his shot at Oscar 2. Quartey hadnt fought in 18months. 3. Quartey was recovering from Malaria, which completely destroys a man physically for a long time afterwards. 4. Oscar was naturally bigger, taller, bigegr reach, clearly bigger in the ring 5. Arrum waited until Quartey had looked terrible only getting a draw then still made him wait 18months without being in the ring
