Anyone hear anything about this? One of my cousins in PR said there is a lot of buzz regarding this in the boxing gyms. I tried to get some concrete stuff, but nothing.. Anyone hear anything? :huh :think
I found this on HBO.com Cotto camp targets Oscar! WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto doesn't call out other fighters and steadfastly maintains that he doesn't choose his opponents and he'll fight whomever Top Rank puts him in with. However, his uncle/manager/trainer Evangelista Cotto told El Nuevo Dia that a May 3 superfight with Oscar De La Hoya is clearly the preferred alternative for the unbeaten champion from Cauguas, Puerto Rico. "Right now a fight with De la Hoya is more marketable than one with Mayweather," said Evangelista, "even though De la Hoya lost to Mayweather in his last fight and Mayweather won last night against Hatton, De La Hoya remains the most marketable....the other names that have been mentioned to fight with Miguel do not compare economically with a fight with De la Hoya."
We'll know in a week or two. Allegedly, DLH is deciding between Cotto and Hatton as to who he wants to fight next. Apparently, he is leaning towards Hatton . However, this could change very easily. It seems to me that DLH wants to go out with a good win. Beating a much smaller man who just got throttled won't accomplish this. It can't be about money for DLH anymore, he already has a **** load of it. So with all of that being said, if I had to put my money on it, I would bet that Cotto and DLH will be fighting in May.
The fight with Mayweather made Hatton a very rich man. He doesn't need the money, so I doubt he'll suffer through another ass whoopin just for a payday.
I know:bart ODLH is the cash-cow, and Cotto wants some for himself (can you blame him?) but its ****ed up, Cotto v Mayweather is what we want, lets hope its sorted soon, although that depends on PBF retirement plan
Cotto should fight Floyd. But who could turn down a $20m? **** sake. Also I do not want to see him beat the crap out of Ricky. :-(
I doubt Cotto would make $20 million in this fight, but he would make a good chunk of change. If Cotto's as good as people make him out to be, and if Oscar is old and shot like people say, then Cotto should be able to beat him; setting up a potential superfight with Mayweather.
If he fought Oscar he could make around that. One of Cotto's major problems is that he is too easy to hit. Floyd would beat him because of this but Mayweather lacks the power to KO Cotto unless he gets hit clean by a number of shots. Fighting Oscar would mean that he would be being hit at a higher weight from a much bigger puncher than he has done before. Couple this in with the fact that Oscar loves to fight people who are going forward and it could be very dangerous for Cotto. Oscar is not shot. He is passed his best. But not shot.
I agree, its actually a tough fight for Cotto, not a sure thing like some would have you believe, like you say, Oscar aint shot, just past his best, and Im not totally sure Cotto can be as effective at 154, just a hunch, but there we go:good Coz lets face it, Oscar dont do 147 anymore
I have a feeling that Cotto may be a bit to easy to hit to beat Oscar. Also Oscar would be much bigger.
Plus, Cotto wouldnt be running from Oscar, he would be in his face, Im still not decided on this one, Id jusr prefer if we could forget the ****ing foreplay (odlh v cotto) and get straight down to it (cotto v pbf) But thats boxing and money for you
a fight with DLH, will always be a tough one for any opponent, I do agree DLH still has a lot left... but in my opinion cotto will defeat DLH... his win over mosley should open some peoples eyes when ever they believe DLH would beat cotto, mosley is a tough challenge and in my opinion posseses more skills than DLH esp. at this stage of both of their careers... cotto gaining at least another 3 or 4 pounds would not hurt him as much as people believe... some say this fight is useless... but in no way is this hurting cotto, since it would help him put his name out there since a mayweather fight is out of the picture for now ( cotto is not to be blame for that) and also beating DLH in a more convincing way than Mayweathers split decision would def. push the fight we all want to see....
