I rate Oscar very highly h2h at 135lbs. The guy was a huuuge! Lightweight with great hand speed and power.

Buchanan has the skills and fluidity to outpoint Oscar who as stated could be stiff and slow to adjust mid fight. Plus Ken has a better two handed attack as Oscars right hand was only negligible back then (though never powerful it got better as he matured).

I’m big on De Jesus but he was tiny by comparison to Oscar. I just think the 6 inches in height and reach is too much for Esteban to overcome especially when you factor in Oscars speed and power. Physically De Jesus matches great with a Duran but poorly against a De La Hoya. Conversely Duran matches up just fine stylistically and size wise with Oscar and I tip him to beat Oscar far more easily than he did De Jesus. Boxing just throws up strange intangibles like that which makes predicting fights such a ***** sometimes.

Excellent post mate, Oscar was a gigantic lightweight as you said and a very big puncher at the weight. His weaknesses were that he wasn’t a very cerebral fighter and he tended to struggle at making adjustments. He had a mediocre right hand and tended to throw the same combos over and over again, His stamina wasn’t great either but he had power, speed and size. His chin was excellent as well.

I agree that the may have been too big for DeJesus who could have made featherweight under modern weigh in rules. Buchanan vs Oscar would have been a battle of left hands, Ken was deffo a cleverer fighter than De La Hoya and a fighter with a better gas tank so it would have been up to Oscar to try and take an early lead and hold on.

    Cheers Mate.
