like oscar or hate him, this is GREAT for boxing.
    espn:
"Oscar wants to do it on free TV, not pay-per-view," Schaefer said. "He wants to give something back to the fans who have supported him for all of these years. He wants to make tickets affordable wherever the fight takes place. We want to have $10 and $20 tickets. If it's in Los Angeles, it will be like a homecoming. I think that's what we would call the fight, 'The Homecoming.'"

Now regaurdless of what you think of oscar, FREE FIGHTS are what boxing needs. In my opinion free "PPV Quality fights" on tv are what makes mma so popular. If more fighters can bite the bullet and realise that their ego's arent going to get them PPV anymore, and actually fight on tv for the sake of giving boxing a good name, then i dont think boxing will have anything to worry about any more.

....now lets hope he picks someone with a name to fight

What would be great is if he could get this fight on ABC or NBC.

    I agree.

Put Evander on the undercard as well as Antonio "Mason Dixon" Tarver.

Get the household names in there.

Screw the household names. Get exciting boxers on there. Putting Tarver and Holyfield on a card will just confirm to a lot of people that boxing is a boring sport. It's not - they're just boring fighters at this stage in their careers. Put someone like Katsidis on the undercard - that will get boxing back on network TV more frequently....

But by free tv, I'm pretty sure he means non-ppv cable, not network TV.

He is doing this to create interest in the casual fan and have it roll over into PPV # for the Sept setup with PBF, thats all it is a ploy to create interest in the Sept fight.

The casual fan who knows nothing of the sport sees Oscar crush some happless opponent. Then throw in a few lines about how he is down to 150, the inactivity hurting him in his last match with PBF, interviews where he claims he feels much better at this weight blah blah blah all Hype ...

DLH fans and other assorted suckers buy off on it and come Sept another boring ass decision victory for PBF in what should amount to a sparring match.
All to do about nothing. The only people who really give a damn are DLH fans who get to see their boy blow another big one

It would be good for boxing.

But will Oscar do it? Hell no.
