He wasnt a KO guy he overwhelmed you til the ref stopped it But he had power just not crippling one shot power
All british refs are like that with prospects. british boxing is literally the most corrupt sport in the world. check out tony bellew vs ovill mckenzie and youll see that.
Most of his stoppages were tko's that's true. He only really sparkedout three or four opponents but your point about him not being able to stop Lacy is invalid. There were a few times in the 8th where it should have been stopped and several after that. That fight should not of been allowed to go 12. The Manfredo one was dodgey but that would of happend anyway imo.
If Joe's 'slaps' have no power behind them, then why has no boxer, including Hopkins, even tried walking through them? Calzaghe has his faults and a ton of bums on his resume, but to suggest his shots had no sting when most fighters were wary of going toe-to-toe, or even fight their way out of his onslaughts is ridiculous. He was no p4p puncher, but he obviously hit hard enough to neutralise his oppostion to the point that they couldn't/wouldn't fight back. Manfredo was undoubtedly one of those that was stopped too early, but it wouldn't have changed the eventual result. No excuse for poor reffing (which it was in some cases), but it's not like the refs were gifting Calzaghe a result he wouldn't have gotten anyway.
Yes, that fight "should" have been stopped by your own reasoning. Does this not sound hypocritical when three quarters of the mans stoppages should NOT have happened? :-scaredas:
