Wow it amazes me when people remark that calzaghe has no power in his punches. Am I really hearing this! Firstly it is true that Joe does occasionly slap, however it does not get away from the fact that he has power in his punches. 1)If Joe did not have any power then he would have been beaten before he fought the likes of Lacy, Kessler and Bhop. 2)He obviously has power other wise the likes of Lacy, Kessler and Bhop would surely steam roller Joe or any opponent who had no power. 3)If you aint getting hurt by your opponents punches then you will surley come out and just walk straight through them to lay your own punches. 4)Just look at the state of Jeff Lacy's face after his pasting by Joe. 5)It is a professional Sport and you dont get to were Joe is by throwing pitta patter puches all your career. If he did he would have got seriously hurt along the way. Tell me if I am missing somthing here or am I being really dellusional! No I dont think it is either! If your a boxer you need to able to punch otherwise you will not survive in the ring. It really is as simple as that.:good
If Calzaghe had good power, Lacy would've been stopped. Look how punches Lacy ate and he still lasted 12 rounds. Calzaghe is a good fighter, but he's not much of a puncher at this stage of his career.
Oh my god! Joe has no power! He isn't American - how can you give any credit if he isn't American? There is alway an excuse. One day - surely one day a Brit will gain credit for beating a yank.... one day! Full steam ahead Mr Haye - then we will see!:good
A lot of Joes wins ended up in a fighter being flurried, the ref calling it off, then the fighting looking perfectly well, totally unharmed, saying why did you do that?
OK - he out foxed Hopkins - landed more than any other opponent, and won the fight - yes it was close but he won! If he can't ko him - beat him - he did this, just get over it for Gods sake
You could have condensed your points down into 1 overall point. He doesn't have one punch KO power (minus the Byron Mitchell fight - he caught him flush); he relies more on work rate and an accumulation of punches to finish his opponent off, if he does knock them out. He is still a very good boxer though; gets the job done.:good
Get over What? I am simply pointing out to some people that he has power and that you do need it to be in the ring. I thought his display was rather clinical in the end and that it was not that good a fight. But what the hell you cant have your cake and eat it.
