I respect all your posts, as a quality poster. No one in the world would have had that good a performance against Lacy, if you think otherwise then....god help your boxing knowledge.
Well, Calzaghe has had 19 KOs in the first two rounds, and if that's not an indication he has power then what is? Mind you, all those fights were five years ago or before, the last one being against Mitchell. Some of Joe's fans say he doesn't hit as hard as he used to. However, in the Hopkins fight, I think he had B-Hop hurt with a couple of hard lefts in the 9th round. Hopkins appeared to not have his legs with him 100% by the end of that round.
TKOs where the ref has stopped it believing Joes punches are hurting, hes only ever KOed two people in his whole career. Was Manfredo a mess...watch the fight? Hes ducking punches nicely, totally unhurt and the ref stops it. I dont think he would have ever beaten Joe but there are questions there like in a lot of Joes TKO wins.
Power isn't simply defined by early KO'. It take a lot more in depth research then just looking at early KO's. But that's besides the point. Joe probably doesn't hit as hard as he used to. Basically all fighters go through that stage. Today, it's unlikley Joe KO's someone unless they are glass chinned. And that's not a negative statement about Joe.
I'm not questioning his performance. That was a virtuoso performance. Unlike many others who disregard that win, I though it was a damn good win. He completely dominated Lacy. However, he's not a big puncher anymore. Calzaghe is very fast and skilled, but he's not a big puncher anymore. Maybe it's because of his hand problems, I don't know. However, when you hit someone as much as Calzaghe hit Lacy, and they still go 12 rounds, that tells me they're not a big puncher.
Joey has awesome power for a junior welterweight He has near Laila Ali type power ... not Anne Wolfe mind ya ... but near Laila Ali ... He's punched like a woman his entire career ... but his power is near the best it has ever been right now
Let's admire Bhop for taking on Taylor, Tarver, Wright, and Calzaghe all in a row. In his 40's, nonetheless. That's got to count for something.
The problem is the thousands of worthless slap he throws when he is in close. Most of them should not even count as punch's there just for show. He as good enough power coming in the make himself respected. Of course when he displays is blatant homosexuality he loses all from most. Of course, theres worst thing then an arm punching slapper playing make beleive boxing. Grab'em, hold'em, head butt'em and elbow them Hopkins like fighter wins the stinker fighter award. That was a fight for the ages.
lol, there aint no yanks for haye to spank!!! remember the heavy's are dominated by other nationalities now. altho they will always say he ducked cunningham!! they have to have some sort of excuse!
You're trying in vein. The majority of posters at Eastside Boxing have convinced themselves that Joe Calzaghe isn't a great fighter, so they find every coceivable way to discredit the man. You can type until the cows come home, but most who reply with "Calslappy" wouldn't have even read your post. You're better off spending your time doing something more constructive. :good
The only fight in his career where he didnt display power was the hopkins fight. il bet ****ing anything that he TKOs Jones due to activity and hard punching. its gonna be his last fight, he will let that **** GO
If you want a KO you need to get him in the ring with a junior welterweight (not Hatton) or a woman ... either that or a completely new body that knows how to punch and has done some weight work ....
I think Calzaghe has some legitimate power when he chooses to use it. Unfortunately brittle hands probably have a lot to do with him choosing to slap. Plus his high output style of offense also works as a defensive tool. With his style of fighting, loading up on punches could be a disaster.
