Winky is a bad pick to fight...Pavlik would have a tough time in that fight....See Pavlik vs hopkins....This might be a replay. Winky like Hopkins can dominate fighters like Pavlik who cant adjust his game, and keeps doing the same things over and over again.

Here is a 'what if' for you. HBO wants to steal some of the thunder from the SMW tourney? If Pavlik beats Balzsay they set up a match for Pavlik and Bute. Either way they sponser a 'super fight' of their own between the two and then own the winner. And it only takes them TWO fights to boot. HBO can then be using SHOWTIME's MONEY to set up the next big fight at SMW. If HBO believe's Pavlik has a good shot at beating Balzsay, they may throw enough money at this fight. Still cheaper than going the Showtime route. Just something to think about......

Umm...no. You are dismissing Balszay, Bute, Andrade, Green and perhaps a few others that have proven more at 168 than the two Andre's, Abraham and, for that matter, Taylor. Too indicate the top 6 at 168 are in this tourny is just plain foolish.

Goosen has blown this fight for a second time. Keep up. Well, Pdub's 'advisor' is blamed for the first one, but still, Pdub ain't ready for Pavlik and his people know it. Just shouting his name for attention.

this is way off base. for one, there are plenty of smw's out there who have a legit argument to be in this tourney. its about $$/marketing, not about who is worth their salt. aa, dirrell and ward have better resumes and a more legit basis for being included than bika, bute, andrade and pav for that matter?? the answer is no. so that is that...

secondly, balzsay is no chump. plus he is a southpaw. there has been talks of a pav/bute fight early next year and a fight w/ balzsay would be a great measuring stick for pav. pav doesnt have much experience w/ southpaws so it would make sense to fight a live, 168lb southpaw before tangling w/ bute wouldnt it??

Hardcore Pavlik fans or Williams haters are the only ones who believe this nonsense.

Somehow they envision Pavlik holding sledgehammers. He is heavy-fisted, but he is no killer. Paul has everything it takes to whip that boy's ass.

Yu will learn soon enough. And your world will come crashing down.

He is no killer? He is a finisher when he has you hurt and that is close enough. His opponents would be better off long term if he took them out with one punch as opposed to piling on the damage. That is why I think your boy really needs to grow into the weight first. I'm understand you have confidence in your guy, but there is a reason for weight classes.

I think it depends mostly on whether Pavlik intends to stay at 160 for a while longer or if the move up to 168 is imminent. Balzsay would probably be the easiest introduction to the division of the fights that HBO would be interested in. If 160 is the desired weight, then I think either Sturm or Williams are the best you can do.

Theres a good chance that PW would be damaged goods after a PAV fight. He has retired a lot of fighters. The ones that havent, they get ktfo from then on. The only fighter to beat PAV outwieghed him and is a hall of famer.

All these guys, except for Williams, need to build reputation and popularity in the US for Pavlik to approve of their existence.

Pavlik should put aside all talk of 168 for the time being and concentrate on his standing at 160. Sturm, Mundine, Williams, Wright would all be decent fights to make for the next 18-24 months. Should he come through those, then he can look to 168.

I'm rather surprised that HBO would greenlight a matchup with Balzsay considering the fact that nobody outside of Germany or Hungary has ever seen the guy fight. I guess Pavlik carries the show well enough so that it doesn't matter who he fights. It's been 5 years since Sturm fought DLH so he's no fixture on HBO either. Winky Wright is finished so with all things being considered, I'd have to agree with those who say that Balzsay is the best choice. Pavlik could win another belt in the process and whether people want to give him credit or not, it would be a victory over a solid fighter.

In the aftermath of Williams/Wright there was a GREAT DEAL of buzz on ESB that went something like this: "Winky is far from shot. That version of Winky would probably beat Pavlik." Now that winky is in the running for a fight with Pavlik, he's old and shot to ****. I wonder why that is.
