Of the last 40 years, does anyone besides LL have a chance to beat Vitaly?

Speaking as a die-hard Frazier fan, man, there's a whole boatload of question about it. Are you kidding me? And easily? No offense but get the hell outta here with that. Of the two true-blue, unquestionable ATGs Frazier faced, he went 1-4. Lost to Foreman twice, Ali twice. Beat Ali once. We all know how competitive the Ali fights were but he got blitzed by the big power hitter of the day something awful-in his prime as well as past it. He never fought anyone as large as Vitali. While I don't put Vitali's power up with Foreman's, even when he really leans into it, I would say he'd be a nightmare match-up for Frazier even if Frazier managed a win, which I don't think he would. No, there's a whole mess of question about it, don't kid yourself.

Is this a joke? The Lewis fight wasn't conclusive? It conclusively ended when Lewis TKO'd him. What the hell is inconclusive? I'm with everyone that Vitali was winning on the cards and that the match was great and competitive but as Lennox said-he did the damage. He busted Vitali's eye up as badly as I've seen. That's conclusive. That was a good, legitimate, valid stoppage. Let's not rob Lennox of that fight. Lewis did the damage. Secondly, Ali and Holmes were in the last 40 years. Are you honestly asking the question if anybody else had a chance? I mean you're not just saying would anybody be really favored, but even have a chance. Of course they would! How could there be a question as to whether or not brother Wlad, Holmes, Ali, Foreman, even Bowe and more would have anything other than a good chance? Vitali is great and gives hell to anybody on any given night but I swear people will blow any great fighter out of proportion just because when they're on a roll it feels like they're supermen. There are no supermen.

Frank Bruno ? Barry McGuigan ? Ricky Hatton ? Joe Calzaghe ? Amir Khan ? Just to add some more brit names.

Anyone had a chance who could either a) outspeed him, or b) land hard enough punches to cut hiim. Tall guys who could ram their skulls into his brows like Lewis did have a bonus, since all his punches did was bust his lip. The brow and cheek cut are typical head collision injuries. I would still have prime Lewis a favourite going in, he had the slickness and power for the task, and Vitali is naturally a volume puncher instead of a one-shot KO monster like McCall on coke.

In the end, that leaves quite some guys who could have done it either way (speed, power, trickiness). If they "would" have done it is open to speculation (head to head I would think he goes like 8-2ish in 10 fights in his prime). No speculation is that the dwarf Frazier would have been on his back in the same two rounds Foreman needed, Herbie Hide style.

Taylor outboxed Froch, and was ahead of the cards. Froch, however, beat the **** out of him. Its the final bell that counts, and when it rang Klitschko had been k.o'd

Taylor was on his ass semi - conscious. Vitali was alert and could have fought on. Skin injuries look terrible, but he suffered nothing modern plastic surgery can't take care off. I am sure Holyfield and Bowe lost much more health - wise in their first battle than Vitali, brain damage just doesn't show up in a bloody wound. It was a questionable stoppage. Also, cuts can be caused by glancing blows, they are not a conclusive proof that the winner was better.

Plastic surgery cannot cure blindness caused by trauma to an exposed optic nerve. Which is what would have happened if Vitali had received further blows to the head.

The doctor didn't stop the fight on the fact the cuts were leading to aesthetic damage, or even bloodloss, but the fact that Vitali was going to come out of the fight visually disabled if he let it continue. It was a perfect call.

Did you just manage to make the two following statements in the same post:

    (a) the damage to Vitali's face was severe enough to warrant plastic surgery
    (b) the stoppage was 'questionable'

    Really?
