Of These; Which Heavy hit the hardest?

Morrison's left hook may well have been the single most powerful punch on the list. I think in the classic forum someone quoted the ref from the Ruddock fight as saying "Tommy hits harder than a winter on welfare".

 

I picked Klitschko but an argument could be made for Lewis. Briggs & Morrison had good power too but a step below IMO.

 

The Duke had one of the best technically thrown left hooks ever. He snapped it perfectly.

 

Well the only man to knock him out cold was Briggs. Mercer was hurt, he put his head down to avoid further punishment and was hit behind the head and was knocked out for his troubles.

 

Very interesting thread RightCross. Truth be told though, Ray was hit by all of them but who's to say they all landed their best when they fought him?

Tommy's hook is one of the best in history technically speaking. He had a pretty powerful right too but the left was devastating.

This is from the horses mouth. I asked him this question, when he said Morrison I was a little shocked. Lots of factors could have been why he said what he did. But, Ray Mercer has went a lot of rounds with these guys, minimum 5 rounds. He also fought Lewis to a 10 rd majority decision, very clsoe fight and that was a prime lewis, so he must know how hard the guy throws.

he lasted 6 rounds with wlad and the guy was over 40 yrs old.

Id say this guy is in a good position to rank some top all time punchers, his answer and he didnt even hesitate, Tommy Morrison.

 

I was surprised by the answer as much as anyone else.

Yah but mercer was 44 yrs old or therebouts. A prime Mercer would murder Briggs.

 

that fight always looked fishy. he took bombs from wlad and a (relative) lovetap from briggs damn near kills him

More than a few of mercers fights were controversial and borderline fishy. One match, I dont remember which, the guy ray was fighting said that Ray offered him a bribe in the ring to take a dive.

Again just a rumor, I cant confirm any of the "allegations".

 

jesse ferguson i believe. he received ray's shot at riddick bowe and was ****ing murdered in two rounds.
