Thanks, but I don't know whether or not those are good choices. That's because mma was different sport back then. Gracie and Severn were fighting with no time limit, no rounds, and no separating or stand ups.

The Smith Coleman bout was under similar conditions to the aforementioned fight, but it did have a time limit. Those conditions gave strikers a lesser chance, because the grappler only had to close the distance once in most cases.

A great fight is a great fight, whatever the rules. MMA would not be the same without either

I don't know that anyone has specified an order. I know that Popkins specified his list was not in order.

Not in the top 20 or 30? That's insane. Hughes is the 2nd most dominant champion in the history of the 170lb division, and Penn moved up from lightweight to beat him. How many other lightweights have done anything like that?

GSP vs. Hughes 1. Happened at UFC 50. No mention of Penn anywhere in there. So, no idea how you got that.

    Non-sequitur.

GSP is now untouchable at Welterweight.

However, at UFC 50 he wasn't even the #2 Welterweight. He had two fights in the UFC at that point. A UD win over Karo Parisyan and a KO victory over Jay Heiron.

To say that is a Top 10 Win of all time is stretching it quite a bit.

He beats GSP now then we have something else entirely on our hands...

    Context. It's important.

Off the top of your head, top 10 wins in MMA history?

Personal opinion, it's important, and relevant to the thread. So if anything is a non sequitur, it's you dictating others opinion, even though I dont necessarily agree with your reasons for doing so.

In other words, post your own 10 without GSP v Hughes 1

You think Matt Hughes beating GSP at UFC 50 was one of the top 10 possible wins of all time in MMA? Why? Because of who GSP is now? That doesn't work at all.

Off the top of my head I'd say...

    Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson

    Anderson Silva vs. Forest Griffin

    Jon Jones vs. Mauricio Rua

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir (At UFC 100)

Georges St. Pierre vs. B.J. Penn (At UFC 94)

    Fedor vs. Mirko Filopovic

    Fedor vs. Nogueira

Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Hughes (At UFC 65)

Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg (UFC 52)

    Cain Velasquez vs. Nogueira

Off the top of my head, those are 10 that I've come up with that are drastically more impressive/important then Hughes vs. GSP at UFC 50.

Also going off the criteria listed in the original post. Could even throw in Sakuraba vs. Belfort, if you want... and a bunch of other ones...

I do note that you didn't defend your reasons for defending Hughes vs. GSP I.

Those listed are not "better" wins then Hughes vs. GSP I? Okay, here's a few more, literally of the top of my head with nothing to jog my memory as I've seen more then 1,000 fights...

    Shields vs. Henderson

    Henderson vs. Bisping

    Evans vs. Griffin

    Evans vs. Liddell

    Liddell vs. Ortiz

    Ortiz vs. Shamrock (UFC 40)

    Franklin vs. Shamrock

Silva vs. Franklin I (and maybe II but that's somewhat more debatable)

Edgar vs. Penn I & II

    Edgar vs. Sherk

    Penn vs. Sherk

    Hughes vs. Gracie

    Penn vs. Hughes I

    Hughes vs. Penn II

    GSP vs. Fitch

Brown vs. Faber I & II

    Aldo vs. Faber

    Aldo vs. Brown

    Cruz vs. Faber

    Henderson vs. Cerrone I

    Pettis vs. Henderson

    ... satisfactory?

I didnt defend Rek's reasons for putting Hughes v GSP 1 on his list. I said post your own top 10 if you dont agree with it.

I personally wouldnt put that on my own list myself

I don't necessarily need to. All I need is a remotely decent argument/counter to one of his selections (which, other then that it's an alright selection).
