The Best Wins That I Have Seen Are:

BJ Penn vs Matt Hughes I - Incredible for BJ to move up a weightclass and dominate Matt Hughes, who was seen as pretty much unbeatable at the time. BJ was truly ahead of his time with his combination of intensity, stand up and grappling skills.

Matt Hughes vs BJ Penn II - Say what you want about BJ gassing and breaking his rib, it was incredible for Hughes to make it through those first 2 rounds to come back and TKO BJ in the 3rd.

GSP vs Hughes II - Complete and Utter domination of a champion, and the man who handed him his only loss. A true changing of the guard fight, as it ended the reign of one long time dominant champ and began the reign of GSP.

Edgar vs Penn II - Simply said, nobody ever expected to see anybody decisively beat BJ Penn at LW.

John Jones vs Shogun - Jon Jones treated Shogun, who everyone believed was back to true form, like a slab of defenseless meat.

Werdum vs Fedor - No comment necessary.

Couture vs Sylvia - Nobody expected it. Sylvia seemed a very bad style matchup for Couture, and Couture proved the opposite.

Silva vs Henderson - The man that was truly believed to be the one true contender was beaten down, handled on the ground and choked out.

Fedor vs Randleman - Just because it was cool as hell!

Nog vs Sapp - Same as above

Lesnar vs Mir - Love him or hate him, he isn't that skilled, but on that night he DESTROYED Frank Mir. Avenged his loss, and beat the living **** out of a guy who still today is a top tier fighter.

Rampage vs Liddel II - The End of The Iceman

    Tito vs Bader - Unbelievable.

Liddel vs Couture III - Definitive ending to the best trilogy in MMA history.

I misread your post entirely. I thought you said Hughes vs Penn I, for whatever reason.

Best list so far. Although no one seems to remember anything more than 5 years ago.

True. I know my fights are all recent, but to be honest, the sport has evolved so much that it is just better now and in the past few years than it was.

These fights were under consideration, as were fights like Royce vs Kimbo and Coleman vs Severn etc, but you have to consider things like Dan Severn fought Royce in only his 3rd pro fight, Severn had already been submitted by Gracie and Shamrock before he fought Coleman, it was Kimbo's first fight when he fought Royce, Mark Coleman had only really fought wrestlers before he met Smith and went on to lose his next three fights, etc etc etc.

I chose not to include fights from this era because IMO wins over guys who didn't really know the styles they were facing or who didn't have much experience is not the same as executing a win over another highly trained, highly knowledgable, highly technical athlete.

Although the wins Rek and I have listed were significant for the sport and took courage, fortitude and skill to attain, I don't view them as comparable. JMHO. :good

I know I highlighted 5 of the above wins as being IMO bad choices, I have to reiterate how terrible I think the mere mention of Cain vs Nog is. I doubt it was even one of the top 10 wins of 2010, never mind top 10 of all-time. Frank Mir had already KO'd this shopworn, battle-weary version of Nog over a year earlier, so how this fight makes it on to anyones' list is completely mystifying to me. :huh

That's part of their charm for me. You didnt really know what to expect. I was lucky enough to watch them when I was pretty green on MMA, had only really seen the Couture v Liddel 2 event, and my friend lent me the 1st 5 UFC's on DVD. So the shock of Royce submitting guys like Shamrock when logic dictates he's way to small was pretty comparable to watching it back in the day I imagine
