Yeah sorry about that. Klompton is usually pretty good but sometimes he zeroes in on something, then God help you ...
I don't know what philly shell is, sorry. I've only asked what it is. Everyone was talking about it as if they know what it is. I was being honest. Everyone's arguing about the origin or correctness of the term, while I was stuck wondering what it even is. Not sure why you think I warrant comparing to klompton. I conceded that the term itself was probably bullsh!t as klompton says. Not that I defend or understand his (all too familiar) rants. Everyone else conceded that too, and told klompton to shut up. fair enough. I was trying to move the discussion forward, looking for answers , although I admit I'm a few steps behind the rest of you in knowledge about the philly shell. But I'm not to be shamed for that. Whatever. I have a better idea of what escudo means now since he kindly explained it, but it's still quite vague. I imagined it being more of a shell-like crouched defense, ala Archie Moore, rather than a sideways stance with shoulder infront of chin. Thanks for your input anyway. :good
I'd say, gans was one of the first originators of that whole mayweatheresque outboxing style that most fighters use today.
Most, or many, of the old-time fighters used the shoulder roll. whether that can be said to be "philly shell" I don't know.
