Round 1

Russo blocks some jabs and dances back. Usyk waves his right jab out and retracts it to hold high vertically across his face. Usyk bobs left and tilts his entire upper body right. Russo throws wide hooks up with his hands down at his sides when idle. Nobody connecting much cleanly yet. Usyk steps in and braces against Russo with his right glove and tries to get a left uppercut in. Right to the chest by Russo. Usyk slaps across the back of Russo's neck as the Italian ducks and then touches him on the forehead covering with a left.

Round 2

Russo down, losing his balance as Usyk whips out a left. Russo grins while pushing to his feet, shaking his head. Russo lobs a right underhand to the body and tries to follow with a hook up top but Usyk gets off a combo to the body and moves to his left. Right upper-hook to the face by Usyk and a hammering left to the side. Jab by Usyk ducked, and Russo springs up with a wide left hook unbending his knees. Right to the body by Russo. Left to the brow and a double right hook tapped to the ear by Usyk. Straight left by Usyk. Left to the body and head by Usyk. Russo hooks into his guard. Big slicing right to the outer hip by Russo. Usyk rips a right hook to the body and then covers up. Russo is flurrying up top with straight punches, and Usyk blocks and counters with a right.

IB's score: 8-6 and 10-9 to Usyk

 

Judges' scores: 7-5 to Usyk, and knotted at 8 apiece.

 

Round 3

Usyk is circling right and popping his long jab. Russo drops his arms down past his knees, doing his best gorilla impersonation. Russo tries to fake Usyk out twitching and false-starting charges, making it unclear what angle he's coming in from. Usyk is using his feet, trying to dictate range with the right jab and not let Russo grab him. Russo resorts to running in, clinches, but can't get anything off before during or after. Usyk gets his left hand caught after throwing it out straight and struggles to yank it free. Shoeshine by Usyk, three shot combo on the inside as Russo drops down and tries to slither out the side. BIG wide left hook by Russo, missing as Usyk pulls the tablecloth out from under him. Nice left from outside by Usyk. Right jab by Usyk, exhausted, falling in to hold. Russo tries to work the body. Big shoeshine to the guard by Usyk, one straight left piercing through.
