    Round 3

Mekhontcev jabs his way in and gets held. Niyazymbetov lets go before he can be cautioned. Mekhontcev jabs aggressively at the body. Clinch. Jabs traded at long range, Mekhontcev's harder, more accurate, more active and varied in location. Niyazymbetov is pushed into a corner and holds to carry Mekhontcev back out to the Olympic logo. Mekhontcev lands the jab and carries his left hand high, threatening with it. Niyazymbetov is kept back. A pair of hooks by Niyazymbetov suddenly leaping forward and Mekhontcev counters with a straight shot. Double jab by Mekhontcev. Niyazymbetov is backed up by the jab, and clashes with Mekhontcev in the middle of the ring with forearms colliding with faces.

    IB's score: 7-2 and 17-8 to Mekhontcev

I think the Russian may have edged it, but it's razor close, real shame you have to have a loser.

Russia should win, but who knows.

I saw it the same way Teddy Atlas did, for the Russian and not all that close. :conf (Bob Papa thinks it was razor thin)

What did you see Niyazymbetov landing in the last round? It was all Egor with the southpaw jab.

Judges' scores: 15-15 even, no winner found on countback...winner by "judges' preference" (vote from the five judges), Egor Mekhontcev

5-6 clean shots, couple of check hooks.

Come on, you are clearly being biased because you think the Russian shouldn't be here.

Gvozdyk should have won by about 8-10 points against Niyazymbetov in the semis. Shame Gvozdyk didn't get the chance to fight today
