This thread sounds like a load of bollocks. Adamek v Hopkins is "official" but Hopkins has yet to agree. Guillermo Jones would "probably beat Adamek" - never read such nonsense in my life. Adamek would fvck up that fat middleweight. More to the point, how can a complete nonsense thread go on for 5 pages. Only on ESB, I say. Adamek's a quality champ, he's a level (and 3 weights) above Kelly Pavlik. Adamek had a frightful learning curve v Briggs 1, Briggs 2, and Dawson. He proved himself a warrior in all those fights, win or lose. Since then, he's become a warrior who's tightened up on his skills and the results - TKO of Bell, PTS win over Cunningham, KO of Banks - prove this. He's an adaptable, power punching world champ, and one of the few genuine champions out there. No doubt Hopkins can frustrate him, but for how long? I don't like the fight, and I hate to see Hopkins "steal" Steve Cunningham's opportunity. Hopkins is greedy outside the ring and negative in the ring. Adamek and Cunningham are ideal dance partners and I will puke if no one comes up with good TV money for these 2 to go at it again.
Why can't Hopkins go away and take his boring style into retirement? He talked himself out of a cruiserweight title fight deal 6 years ago (James Toney, IBF title) and I bet he will do it again. Why are ppl so excited about seeing Hopkins again? He spoiled the Wright and Calzaghe fights rotten. Like Calzaghe, look for Adamek to win ugly. I think there's a lot of indulgent fools on here who are pissing themselves for the chance to say, "Hopkins has won ANOTHER title", "And, oh look, Hopkins has surprised us again - wha a legend." Sad, really. Good payday for Adamek, though. If he wins, he's on one hell of a run. But this gets in the way of a great rematch with Steve Cunningham. Golden Boy are dreck. They have no young stars - they know fvck all about how to develop them - so they are dragging things out putting GBP partners in "mega fights" that they will likely STINK in.
Dan Rafael says if Mosley-Berto and Hopkins-Adamek comes off, it's "great for the fighters and even better for fight fans". Says who? Better for fight fans - nonsense. Hopkins will hug and run and we all know this. Adamek-Hopkins kills off an infiniely better Adamek-Cunningham 2 fight. Cunningham, a tough skilled warrior without a cozy TV deal, will probably never fight on TV again.
I have learned my lesson of never going against Hopkins since he always makes me look like a fool. Hopkins by UD.
Well as the thread owner is not responding to your Questions , i can tell you why its not on the esb or boxingnews yet , its becuz just after the goldenboy-mainevents meeting the interview was made by a polisch journalist so its on every polisch boxing site but not yet on internationals
OK fair enough. it does look like Schaefer is pitching it to HBO, and HBO usually serve up GBP product. Good that big names want Adamek, etc. I'm very ambivalent about this fight. As I said, it kills off Adamek-Cunningham 2 - a great fight. Adamek-Hopkins is never going to be a great fight. We watch Adamek for back and forth action, not to chase a spoiler/defensive fighter. This is a great opportunity for Adamek to get an HBO payday; he can join the big earners if it all goes well. He is an elite champ: he has the ring belt, can ditch the IBF and seek out the bigger money bouts. Any fighter wants to do this. On the other hand, if he lost or if he won ugly, ppl might not want to see him again. If Hopkins can't beat you, he will just spoil your style - this is why I cannot understand how he's got on HBO so many times since the apalling Taylor fights. Ultimately, Hopkins' greed will be his undoing. We're in a recession, and he has to do more to get an HBO main event. No more middleweights coming up to face him at light heavyweight. If you can only make 172-175, fight guys your own size FFS. No more "Hopkinsweight." No more fights where almost everything is in his favour. Hopkins could be fighting a guy who has grown into a division 25 pounds above light heavy, and 40 pounds above his prime weight (middleweight). Hopkins has had a long time inactive, and is old, despite being well preserved...Adamek is one of boxing's better champs, has beaten lots of good fighters and shown he can box and slug. He is faster on his feet than Pavlik, and obviously being a cruiser, he punches harder. The stats are not all in Hopkins' favour. At this stage of his career he needs everything to be in his favour.
Very true. But Adamek has the skills and mindframe to surpass Holyfeild. Hes not better yet, but if he gave out a few good solid defenses and beat maybe about 4 or 5 more solid contenders and he would surpass Holy as GOAT in CW. Adamek can make his own legacy in CW.... he shouldn't really waste it on some big goof like Golota. I hope this Hopkins fight happens.
I agree with this.... This is why i also preferred that Adamek would fight Glen Johnson instead of B. Hop. and as far as Jones beating Admaek, lol please.
Rated by EVERYONE as the best CW of all time. Rated by just about everyone as one of the top 10 HWs of all time. Unified CW champion. Undisputed HW champion. In fact a 4 time HW champ (should be 5...****ing Valuev). Wins over Qawi x2, De Leon, Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Bowe, Moorer, Mercer, Tyson, Ruiz, Rahman and Valuev (I DONT GIVE A ****...he won that fight clearly). Also fought Lewis x2 (should have lost both...but still), Bowe x2 more, Ruiz x2 more, Tyson, Moorer, Byrd, Toney, Ibragimov, etc. Plain and simple...with resume, skills, accomplishments, longevity, heart (Larry Merchant once said that "If Evander Holyfield weighs 225 pounds, his heart weighs 224"), etc...we are not just talking about one of the best CWs of all time...we are talking on the best fighters of all time. No disrespect to Adamek, or yourself Andy (as you know your my boy :good) but he is NO WHERE NEAR passing or even equalling what The Real Deal did in the ring. Thats not an insult...not at all...but it is the truth.
And I realize we are talking CW, but in most cases...especially "all time great" convo's...you take an entire career into account when talking a fighters rank at a certain weight. Think about it. Sugar Ray Robinson's name is sinonimous with "greatest MWs of all time", some even say he is number one. Regardless of the fact that he fought minimally at MW in comparison to his other weights. Same with Hopkins...
