Discuss anything about the fight. Well, most of us predicted it will go the distance. I was right in the head about William's aggression as his key to winning but wrong in the gut about Wright prevailing with defense.. Wright was overwhelmed with a well conditioned and over aggressive Williams. Pretty much most of our analysis were correct. The commentating was alright and insightful. I particular want to take note how Lampley and Merchant were pointing out the ring girl, her attire, and her belly before round 8 hehehe. Do you think Wright is done or was E.Steward kinda right when he stated Wright still has it (exciting/entertaining fighter) but just not against a talent like Williams? Wright: "I'm not done."
Much props to Williams......He has tremendously improved as a fighter, learning how to sit on his punches. He will be any counter-punchers worse nightmare 147-154 is his domain
I don't think he has the frame yet to take on the big punchers like Kelly and Arthur I think Goosen would be smart to steer him away from them guys and a build legacy at 147-154
I was a bit skeptical about Williams but he impressed me tonight. Dont know how he will do with Abraham or Pavlik but he definitely cleans out 154.
I wanna see him fight the winner of Pavlik/Abraham. Winky should fight DLH if Oscar still wants to fight. Then both should call it quits.
AA is at a lost now, too many options but would he have a guts to take big fights outside his country?
hmm says... I felt that Williams came out the way he usually does, flurrying the hell out of his opponents.....However, I really underestimated his reach. I thought Wright would be able to get in and counter more to pull a UD/ SD, but he himself stated "his reach was a problem for countering" and his timing was off. I'll be on the Williams train for his next fight. Mad props to Wright but it was a mistake to take on the talent of Williams after such a long absence.
I guess I have to eat my crow. Williams did make Winky look his age and dominated him. His volume of punches and reach was too much for the old fella. I only gave Winky 3 rounds. Winky tried to back off Williams with his power but none of the shots Winky landed seemed to have any effect on Williams. Props to Williams, he proved me wrong. With this performance tonight I think he actually stands a chance against Pavlik. I think he should challenge the winner of Artur/Abraham, but if he can take a fight with Pavlik straigh on, then he should. Pavlik did look pretty bad on his last fight... Another thing I like about Williams was his attitude, he really wants to fight the top dogs from 147-160.
Before this fight I had WIlliams at about #6 or #7 pound for pound after guys like Chad Dawson and Israel Vasquez. But after this fight I have P. Williams @ #4 pound for pound, only after Pac, JMM, and Hopkins.
