I have to agree. Golota was winning till he fouled it up w/ a low blow which is unjustifiable in boxing. Sorry to say that he did not have the mental toughness at that juncture of the fight.
Golota was never brilliant. Thats a huge overstatement. yes he was winning on the cards against Bowe then self destructed. The same Guy gets TKO'd by china chin Michael grant. Grant then gets Ko'd on the first punch of the fight by Jameel Mcline. Again, Golota is right along the lines of a Jameel Mcline. Moments of good boxing and good power. But, overall a career of limited victories and disappointment. If jameel mcline was polish you all would love him.
Golota most certainly showed flashes of brilliance. Even the top boxing minds of the day openly admitted such during his prime. With those flashes of brilliance in skill and ability came inexplicable mental meltdowns. His skills, however, were always praised in those days. His jab was even often compared to that of Larry Holmes. By the time McCline fought Grant, Grant had already been ruined by Golota and Lewis. It was not the same Michael Grant, much like we never saw the same Golota or Bowe after they fought each other. Well, with that you just proved that you still don't understand the appeal Golota provided. McCline was never anywhere close to the enigma that was Golota. You don't get it. :smoke
This is just insensitive claptrap. Clubber Lang was an undisciplined slugger feasting on a weak era and a distracted, disinterested champion. As soon as he faced a prepared & motivated A-level fighter, he was taken to school and collapsed like a diseased lung. Adamek looked like Holmes.
Crazy that that guy compared Golota (1996 version) to McCline. McCline has as much boxing skill has AG had in his big toe.
