fatty would be about the smallest running forward in the game today. these polynesians would crush him. hed be about the equivalent of a mark riddell and wouldnt get a look in at rep football.
love the idea of a league power play , each side gets one chance of using it a game , the other side loses 2 players for 5 minutes making it 13 - 11 . want to see more running play instead of endless 6th tackle bombs to the outside backs.
when fatty played you needed brains, footballers were footballers, not just pumped up athletes with no real feel for the game, fatty would have run rings around the big coconuts
atsch attacking and defensive lines are more streamlined and coordinated and players are smarter now than ever before. back then your halfback was the "brains" of the team and if a forward passed or god forbid kicked the ball hed be dragged off the field. these days everyone has to think like a halfback you would never have seen that grand final grubber by glen stewart pre 95.
Fatty wouldnt have done **** in todays game and you ****s know it. He wouldnt have been one of the smallest forwards he would have been one of the smallest players on the field. You are either lying or hopeless romantics for players of the past if you think Fatty does anything in todays game. Fatty himself would agree with me.
This is how I normally speak :deal Honest. Foulest mouth on any person alive which my mum has caught from me
Yeah, the game is more defensive now, so? The fact it wasnt as rigourously defensive in times past means that players had more room to play football, there were more ball playing forwards, not just neolithic looking islanders who have only had to run straight with the ball since they were 7 years old & never pass Watch some of those old origins & watch how many true footy players there were, blokes who werent neccesarily there for physical prowess but rather their football brains, blokes like Lyons, Daley, lewis fatty started as a 5/8th, watch some of his early stuff, he actually had pace & a bit of dash
Pretty sure 95% of the players from the 70's and 80's have all said they wouldn't make it in todays level... Just for the simple fact that advancement in sports has grown exponentially in the past 20 years. Great players of this era, will not cut it in the packs 20 years from now. It's not disrespecting them it's just saying that they were players with different style and pace.
Well there is one. Never seen him play too young but seen some old footage. Changa.:deal [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLyAaN6EpfE[/ame]
I agree with everything you stated. It's only recently, say the last 10 years that the game has moved on to the tight structure we have today. I think the importance of statistics is going to push it even further. Yeah Fatty always had dash and a Hindmarsh dummy it was one of his trade marks.
