Jake Friend suspended for two matches, Brett Seymour fined and dropped

FOOTAGE has emerged of Cronulla halfback Brett Seymour's weekend night on the town, with the Shark player so drunk he collapsed on the pavement.

The mobile phone footage was screened on Channel Nine news tonight.
It shows a heavily intoxicated Seymour stumbling about while a blonde woman tries to hold him up. He is unable to remain upright and brings them both crashing to the ground.
Another part of the footage shows him weaving up a Cronulla mall near the nightclub from which he was ejected.
    See the footage here
After viewing the footage, Cronulla officials banned Seymour for two matches and fined him $20,000.
He had originally been cleared by the club over the Sunday night/Monday morning incident after CCTV footage from outside the nightclub did not show the extent of Seymour's condition.
Seymour will miss the matches against Newcastle and St George-Illawarra.

A club statement released this afternoon said based on fresh evidence made available today "by a television network", the Sharks had seen fit to impose a two match suspension, in addition to a $20,000 fine, as a penalty.

"The firm stance shown by the Sharks is an indication that the club will not tolerate such behaviour," it said.

"The decision came as a result of this most recent evidence, which formed part of the independent investigations conducted on behalf of the club by a representative of Barrington’s Corporate Risk."

The club has provided a full written report on the incident to the NRL.

Meanwhile, the NRL board today suspended Sydney Roosters hooker Jake Friend for two matches.Friend had been fined $10,000 by the Roosters after being charged with high-range drink-driving early Tuesday morning.
Roosters coach Brad Fittler had chosen Friend to play this weekend against Canberra before the NRL board stepped in.
The Roosters are not expected to appeal the penalty.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said the decision showed a line had been drawn when it came to punishing players who misbehave when under the influence of alcohol.
"Those few players who risk the reputation of everyone else in the game need to understand that the stakes in this area have risen considerably," Gallop said.
"It is always going to be hard for clubs and coaches to stand players down but that now has to be accepted as a realistic outcome in these situations.
"The game's sponsors are certainly nearing the point where they have had enough and so too have the fans.
"Going forward we propose working with the clubs to develop a more consistent approach from them in terms of the actions that they take."
Seymour's suspension comes just over a week after the NRL banned Manly's Brett Stewart for four weeks for being intoxicated at a club function.

the Sharks off their own bat fined Seymour 20k and

suspended him for 2 matches for being drunk and disorderly endangering noone but himself.Jake Friend
fined 10k suspended 2 matches for high range DUI and
that was only after the NRL stepped in.Manly fined a whopping 100k for a guy who was just refused service
at a pub.uncle Nick has something on Gallop or Gallop
favours the Roosters.the discrepancies in the punishments for Manly and Sharks compared to the

    Roosters is ridiculous.

Look at the various Rooster's players who have been in trouble over recent years, and see if we can find one incident where any of them were heavily penalised for their behaviour:

    Nate Myles:

2005 - charged with drink driving, the Roosters fined him $10,000, order him to do 20 hours of community charity work and required him to enroll into alcohol counselling.

2009 - suspended for six weeks and dropped from the State of Origin team after defecating in the corridor of a luxury resort hotel whilst drunk. The club was also fined $50,000 for repeated offences.

    Todd Carney:

2007 - drove a vehicle whilst already disqualified for drunk driving, which escalated into a high-speed chase through Canberra as he attempted to escape police. The courts placed Carney on a 12-month good behaviour bond, banned him from driving until 2012 and sentenced him to 200 hours of community service.

2008 - alleged to have pissed on a bloke in the dunnies of a Canberra nightclub.

2009 - went on a rampage in Goulburn, damaging property, jumping on a car bonnet and damaging the entrance to a store. He received a 12 month suspended jail sentence, was ordered to undertake alcohol counselling, and was banned from the local Government area for 12 months.

2010 - burned a man after setting fire to his pants as a prank.

2011 - charged with drink driving, fined $10,000 by the NRL.

So with a long list of drinking-related problems (granted they didn't all occur while he was at the Roosters) he gets off with a fine and no suspension.

    Jake Friend:

2009 - charged with drink driving after being caught by police in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

2009 - charged for assaulting a woman at a Sydney nightclub.

2009 - arrested and charged by police following an altercation with a taxi driver.

2010 - arrested and charged with two counts of possessing a prescription drug without permission.

Michael Crocker - 2005 - involved in an alcohol-fueled disturbance outside a Sydney hotel. He pleaded guilty to affray and was fined $10,000 by his club.

Willie Mason - 2009 - fined $2,000 by the Roosters after being photographed urinating in a public place.

Setaimata Sa - 2009 - charged with assault, resisting arrest, criminal damage and failure to leave a licenced premises, after a drunken episode in a Sydney hotel.

Stanley Waqa - 2009 - charged over a knife-wielding incident in which a young woman was wounded in Sydney's east.

You're just tring to sweep it under the rug like Gallop is.

Your boys have received favourable treatment from the NRL for some time now.

Don't forget your bloody coach was sprung trying to get into 2 girls' hotel room while pissed and halfnaked a couple of years ago too - last time a player did that he was charged with sexual assault, dropped by his club (Newcastle) and banned from the NRL for a year (Tilse).

As long as Souths lose, the big number in members will be quite noteworthy.

You guys are aware their are another 14 teams in the NRL not just the Roosters and Souths.
