Read above about Taylor. It was a smart buy, and at the time, he was in the Queensland Cup, though I will admit, it wasnt because of a lack of faith of his ability, mainly because he was considered a lazy footballer. Those are WOR's thoughts, not necessarily mine. I dont see the harm in buying young players elsewhere. If you're smart enough to have an eye for them at that age when noone else does, then all power to you. This sort of purchasing, can buy you valuable years when you get them on their "coming up" stage. Same as Manly did with Cherry Evans. I do see the value in having local juniors though, and it is more rewarding seeing a junior come through and make it to the top. But to solely rely on juniors, in todays game, is a tactic thats doomed to fail. The Titans are the most guilty of all of trying to buy a premiership, yet they end up with wood. Go figure.
I've never seen the harm in it either, i think we've been prertty astute getting Luke whilst he was a nobody, Souths brought him along to International level, the same as Taylor, Sam Burgess was a young international who hadnt played many games, its not like there was many teams raiding English talent The likes of Farrell, Tyrell , Lowe, McQueen, Corrigan have all come to Souths at a young age & then theres more local blokes getting a go than most teams, the inference that we've tried to buy a team relates to us buying a heap of big names ala Manly when they depleted Western Suburbs, Manly & Souths years ago, if you asked most fair minnded League supporters who you think of when you mention buying a comp & most would say manly & the Rorters , & i dont say that because of the two clowns on here, thats just coincidence
Titans had to do something to get on their feet in the first 5 years of the comp. They bought well and now some good jnrs are dribbling through. Mead, Gordon, Thompson, Ridge, Srama & Rankin. 6 players in the top squad is a fair effort in todays game. All the Jnrs are now coming through the Warriors system, i wouldnt be surprised if 90% of them get picked up by other clubs.
Agreed WOR. On another matter. Looks as though issac may miss the game against the scum for pushing the ref. Will be a blow for sure. May have to change my bet to souths by 12-20 instead of 21+
I've said my piece tekey toes. :yep The warriors have always had great juniors, but you do find that when they step up to NFL level, they lose their size advantage that they had in the Toyota cup. Still good talent there though. Reckon Clive Palmer is Gunna buy the titans?
They initially lose their size dominance. Bye bye Isaac Luke for a few rounds What kind of Sociopaths are you breeding at LOL@50uFF$
out of Interest, how far does the Gold Coast Qld junior area reach into NSW & NZ? Thompson.....Tauranga City Sharks Kevin Gordon.... Sawtell Panthers David Mead...... Marist Bros Lismore Matt Srama.... Centenary Panthers (Brisbane) Nice to see a few Souths Juniors going well up there anyway
Go easy on the teksta. Orn and bread coffs harbor kid, yet follows titans and manly and calls himself a queenslander all black. Geography clearly isn't his strong point.
Well, seeing as though Coffs is a fair bit closer to Goldy than Newcastle then I would say quite a way into NSW. I might draw the line at Nambucca Heads :think
