Havent seen the game yet but other than the last 10 mins what was the souths defence like?

@ Wigan we saw the change Mcguire made pretty much straight away.

From the 2 games I've seen, the defence has improved. But the jury is still out.

Our speed off the defensive line hasnt changed much, and there were still a couple of occasions where players shouldnt have rushed out of the line, but aside from the last 4 minutes, it was a decent improvement.

I stand very firm with my thoughts that it will be Roosters v Eels for the Spoon.

The more I reflect on the heartbreaking loss, and rate the performance with a clear mind, the more I am pleased with it. I just watched 76 minutes of the game again (guess which 4 minutes I missed? ;)) and my spirits arent as dim as they were a few hours ago.

To elaborate on before, the intensity was much higher consistently. We've been guilty of only showing flashes of intensity here and there, and inbetween looking miserable. Aside from the last few minutes, we looked very intense in defence.

Overall, our silly penalties werent as evident tonight. Some carelessness towards the end by Pettybourne was a let down, but other than that we played a hard hitting game in defence, and hurt the scum on a lot of occasions.

Our attack lacked flair, but is a work in progress. Without Luke, and Merritt, we lack those darts up the middle, and miss Merritt's popping up at the right time.
Our attack was more structured this time. We miss the flair that we've had in years past, but players werent running around in circles passing it to whoever just for the sake of it, and the ball wasnt inexplicably given to guys like Crocker, or Geddes to boot it on the 5th tackle as has been the case so many times in the past. Guys like burgess, and Taylor also didnt look for those miracle offloads which usually went to ground too.

Theres a plan and a structure in place, and while the timing of it might not be there yet, it has already reaped its rewards. Reynolds had a decent debut. A decent organized halfback whos not bad defensively. He sounds like just the type of player that McGuire likes to have. His kicking game needs improvement, but other than that, he went well.

If Mcguire is the sort of disciplinarian and sports science studier I believe he is, then I'm sure he'll be stressing the fact that they simply have to play for the whole 80 minutes. We were on our way to a tradesman like simple effective win, yet somehow pulled out a lol@souffs. :-(

For next week, I'd probably throw Corrigan to reggies. He's a solid tackler and good defensivelt, but cant leap for ****, and whenever he runs the ball up, he always gets hammered. Put King in his place, and if Merritt isnt fit, put Talanoa on the wing. Talanoa ran hard and did damage for the 10 minutes that he played last night, but admittedly, a big fast guy like him up against a tiring defence should look good.

Overall, it caps off a great opening round of league. There were some close games, miracle wins, big crowds out, and a few talking points. The Sharkies can take heart in their efforts. It'll take a few months for teams like the Drsgons and Manly to uncoach their form under their old coaches, and the lol@souffs brigade have something to sing about from the get go.

Some great games this round...good way to start the season.

Once again the Sharks wuz robbed...there needs to be a royal commission into that ****..notice how they refused to replay that penalty at the start of extra time?

The faceless men tried to have the truth covered up..to keep the Sharkies down..but they won't..not on my watch.

No one mentions the fact that it shouldnt have even gone into over time, what about the second sharks try where they scored off a pass about a metre forward?
