It pisses me off as a Souths supporter, for decades we were fiscally responsible & only spent what we could afford, we never had the NRL to fall back on, people knocked piggins, but he ran a tight ship & proudly never had to go cap in hand to the league or the banks, success evidently was pretty sparse but we survived until we were unfairly excluded

Then you have the titans, going to hell in a hand basket, yet still paying massive amounts for marquee players, how can they justify it? There's nothing wrong with coming last or being down near the bottom for a while as long as your REAL supporters stick tight, things do get better

This is exactly how the Real Titan fans feel up here.

One poster has even said that they dont care if they keep the spoon this year as long as they dont fold due to poor Management.

I just want them to buy a premiership

What we got from the juniors & seniors combined was nowhere near as much as most clubs were getting from more profitable leagues clubs, getting grants from leagues clubs has been an inherent factor as part of their charter from word go, certainly the juniors didn't have to but they existed to fund junior league in the district & with no seniors that would have been difficult

What ever we had or could scrape up we spent no doubt, but a lot of other clubs went to the wall from over spending, we never went into massive debt buying big name players

Yeah i think they will or you have a ****ing stadium there that they spent millions on that no one will use.

The NRL have to put there support behind a the Gold Coast or Governments wont spend millions on stadiums for Rugby again.

Mate that seams like the biggest waste of money ever to build a awesome stadium for two new teams only to have both fold.

    Thats Crazy.

I agree with Wide Open how can the NRL sit back and let them spend the money on there players like that when they dont have the money and are clearly over the Salary Cap or will be.

But at the same time you abandon the Gold Coast venture its madness as you need at least 3 QLD teams.

    yep agreed

i disagree with this practice of bailing out teams that arent financially viable or are in huge debt, unless of course it was nothing that could be avoided such as some sort of unforseen incident. The titans are pissing money against the wall like it was water and still chasing the most highly prized players in the league... as much as i dislike the sharks, if it had been them in this situation it would be game over. Those guys have sacrificed, scrimped and saved just to keep a team. They have old facilities, used to warm up in a glorified car park and after never winning a premiership still remain a side. This attitude of wanting to have the best players and a premiership right away no matter the cost is why American sporting teams are constantly going broke, moving cities and having huge staff turnovers. The NRL should help the titans devise a plan to pay off debts, but ill be ****ed if they should bail the ****s out like they were Goldman Sachs only to watch it happen again

The NRL wont let Fold Coast die, but they wont sit back and let them spend up like they are.

I reckon the NRL may expel the administration and replace them with their own.

Sport and the Fold Coast just dont go hand in hand. Titans = current spoon holders, and are staring at going down.
Fold Coast A League team = Spoon holders, and have now died as a team and are no more.
Fold Coast AFL team are also current spoon holders and will probably die one day too, although the AFL does look after its teams far better than the NRL does.

The Gold Coast venture in AFL will always survive. Trust me as the AFL do things alot different.

The Newer teams get more of the TV money and they are exceptions made so they can buy up big for a few years.

But something the AFL do really well is the teams get in amongst the Community.

AFL teams all afl teams visit schools weekly and a heap in the Pre Season.

Now i know the TV money is alot more in the AFL but clubs have alot more players to pay as well as staff to run clubs.

But when teams come in like in AFL they get the right support from the AFL. Clubs are never left to fend for themselves.

Gallop and the NRL need to take lessons from the AFL.

Because we were told growing up that teams like West Coast Eagles, Brisbane Lions , Adelaide Crows will never survive but between them they have all won Premierships and have had great teams in the past.

The only team i have concern about is Port Adelaide but some are saying if they are to move Tasmania is waiting because Hawthorn have 15,000 members from Tasmania alone.

    There membership drive are massive.

Mate i sit back and being a Victorian that has lived in Queensland and has family there i love Rugby League and the NRL have a great game to sell and its a awesome game to watch.

But for some reason the NRL continue to **** it up.:deal

Plus i want to add and i may get some Hate for this.

But the NRL needs a Draft.

This is my reason and its true but when newer teams and teams that sit on the bottom for so long get to draft 1st you get the Young superstars come through at the club.

Plus its another chance to talk about Rugby League and it would be the perfect time to have Free Agency and so this whole thing with players signing for different clubs with a whole season to play stops.

Two of the biggest watched sports fans wise and TV ratings wise in the NFL and AFL have this system and look at how well it works.

These older past players going on about certain teams getting rights to local kids its bull**** and especially in Pro sports.

Agreed, the commision must force the Titans to be responsible & not keep spending hand over fist to the further detriment of their already dire finacial position

I think part of the Dilema here is that organisations like the Tits when they start up suppose they must be immediately succesful to garner support in a new market, its as if they think, & maybe rightly so, that if they enter the League & immediately struggle, they wont build a support base, new supporters will shun them etc

Does Success = support, i suspect so, will a non succesful team in a new market still set up a good support base for the future?? thats the question

Will the new teams set to enter the competition, Perth etc have to perform the same tricks to gain the hearts & minds in an even more difficult, alien sporting market like Perth??
