Sutton would have to be the most underperforming first grade 5/8th in the comp...even anonymous at the Storm does better than him even though no one knows his name...Sutton cruises around with his head up his arse and does nothing
Like I said, he's the best defensive 5/8 in the comp. His best year at 5/8 was in 09. Back then, Taylor had Sutton attacking the right side, and Sandow to the left. It worked a charm as Sutton is a natural left hander, and Sandow right. Sutton built up great combinations with Pettybourne, and could get the ball outside quicker. I think he finished the year 6th in Dally M points. In 2010, Lang inexplicably got Sutton to attack the left and Sandow right, and Sutton has struggled a bit since. Colin Best was starved of quality ball when he was with us, but has now gone ok at the Sharks. GI was starved of the ball last year, and Farrell hasnt seen much this year either. Sutton just cant get these guys the room they need, and that comes down to his lack of ability at 5/8.
Bird played most of last year at 5/8 and he owned that title, he also owned the worst attacking 5/8 title aswell :-(
umm what??? who ever mentioned sutton in the blues team? the guys played what one city country game?? ill be speechless if you can find one article that claims sutton as a contender for origin. sutton just isnt tough enough let alone good enough for origin. hes a guy that hangs around footballers
To be fair, I do recall a few heads suggesting he might be a bolter for SOO in years to come but that was way back soon after he debuted and NSW were desperate for a halfback - may even have been the year they brought Joey back... Haven't heard "Sutton" and "State of Origin" mentioned in the same sentence since though, so dunno where this 3-4 years business comes from.
was this some sort of "baby blues" article or something? i doubt sutton has even been in the development squad has he??

Yeah, might have been... His wiki says he was selected in the 2009 40-man SOO squad but withdrew due to a knuckle injury
"Sutton was named in the preliminary 40 man squad for game 1 of the 2009 State of Origin series and was selected for City in the City vs Country match on 8 May "
Just as well he had to withdraw due to a sooky knuckle - if' he'd played everyone would have seen just how bad he is and his card would have been marked for good
