You think they need to drop Uate. I cant believe Burher only played 8 minutes whats the point of even naming him.

Merritt would be better defensively thats certain but is he mentally tough enough for Origin.

What about Blake Ferguson Wide Open.

What more does Merritt need to do, he's scored more tries than anyone over the last 6-7 years, he's consistantly topped the try scoring tables & once when Souths came last, thats not mental toughness??

I can only assume when people question his mental toughness they are refering to his Aboriginality?? i cant imagine what else they could refer to?
He's been one of the most consistent players in the comp for a long time, its got a lot of people beat how he hasnt got a go yet, i can understand the fact the team in which he plays has been consistently crap but he still kills it

Its funny, you are probably spot on. If he got a chance he'd probably do great. But....i dunno, something about him that makes me think their are better choices. I guess the selectors feel same. Something about him that DOESNT scream origin.

Again, no basis for it, just get that feeling about merritt.

I meant more so that its a step up from just playing first grade. Im ok with the choice like i said i feel defensively he would be better than Uate but running the ball out deep from the corners like Uate, Hayne do is a different story.

Me personally i feel Merritt might play Origin like David Williams did. Small fast Yes but non factor on the same side as Inglis and Boyd.

Merritt is too meek - he doesn't display the aggression required at SOO level.

The NSW origin team just returned from a trip to an orphanage in Zimbabwe, "it was a great chance to meet such underprivileged people with very little hope in life" said Alfred Mgombo, age 6.

Merritt is very poor at running the ball out from kicks. He is sound defensively, but does have his terrible days when opposed to bigger strong players. He has had a few horrid times when up against Manu.
His support play is brilliant though as he has wonderful vision.

I dunno about him in origin either. he just seems like a Souths boy and thats it. I'd like to see him get it for a personal achievement, but at the same time I'm happy he isnt getting picked so he can do a job at Souths.

hard to agree, i think form over that long a time warrants reward, i un derstand of course that origin requires a different type of player,, a more robust player, which of course Uate is, but his positional play is ****, Merritt is a footy player through & through, Uate is an athlete

Anyways, i'm off to the game soon, wish me luck...err

    I mean us luck ;)

I'm as confident as I've ever been with this one. Only thing that might cause me to bother a little bit is if its very wet. Otherwise, we'll have this one in the bag by oranges. :good

I think El Masri finally ended up getting a cap.
Merritt is a far better winger than El IMO. El made his name by being a great goal kicker. Merritt is a game breaker with the ball in hand and has proven himself even in one of the worst team sheets in the modern era (our 2006 squad).
