Joel Reddy to walk, Chris Sandow to reject offer

PARRAMATTA'S recruitment strategy is in tatters with the revelation centre Joel Reddy is on the verge of quitting and with Souths' boom halfback Chris Sandow poised to reject a $2million deal to move west.

And in a further blow to the former NRL powerhouse, Roosters forward Tom Symonds yesterday knocked back a big-money approach from the desperate Eels to remain at Bondi for a further three seasons.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal three rival NRL clubs and one English Super League team have swooped on Joel Reddy, one of the club's more consistent players.

The Eels have now missed out on Symonds, Storm forward Adam Blair and gun halves Cooper Cronk and Quade Cooper.

Sandow is expected to announce soon he is staying loyal to the Rabbitohs.

At the same time, Parramatta have yet to even put an offer in writing to Reddy because they have been waiting to check his recovery from a shoulder reconstruction.

All this just a week after coach Stephen Kearney declared: "I aim to provide the necessary stability and direction as head coach that will ensure our retention program will hopefully put an end to our current players leaving the club."

Reddy is tipped to sign with one of the three rival clubs within the next fortnight, with the Bulldogs and Cronulla believed to be among the clubs chasing him.Reddy's manager Steve Gillis confirmed last night it was unlikely the City Origin centre from last season would be staying with the Eels.

"Joel's loyal to Parramatta and he loves the players out there. He would like to stay but at this stage we haven't got an offer in writing," Gillis said. "At the same time there is plenty of interest in his talents and other clubs are keen to recruit him.

"He's only recently married and his wife is expecting their first child so you can understand he has to think about his family and his future."After being heavily criticised for losing quality players Feleti Mateo and Kristan Inu to the Warriors and signing only old stagers like Chris Walker, Paul Whatuira and Carl Webb as replacements, Kearney spoke just last week about his plans to overhaul the Eels' recruitment which included appointing ex-Broncos football manager Peter Nolan as chief recruitment officer.
"The first part of our plan is already under way and it involves a more structured and specific approach to recruitment and retention of players and staff," Kearney said. "It has been very frustrating for me as a newcomer to watch former Parramatta players running around playing for other clubs against the Eels."

PARRAMATTA are officially the worst team in the NRL.

If you disagree, take a look at these damning statistics.

The Parramatta Eels are 16th and last for points scored this season, last for tries scored, last for line breaks, last for tackle busts, last for off-loads, last for metres conceded, second last for run metres, second last for points conceded and second last for line breaks conceded.

And it gets worse.

TAB Sportsbet yesterday pushed Parramatta out to a whopping 100/1 to win the Telstra Premiership.

This from a team that just 20 months ago ran out in front 82,000 fans at ANZ Stadium - as the pride of NSW - to confront Melbourne in the NRL grand final.

"They have promised their fans the world and delivered them an atlas," said TAB Sportsbet spokesman Glenn Munsie.

It seems the wheels are completely off at Parramatta after a 30-0 drubbing by St George Illawarra last Sunday at WIN Jubilee.

The Eels were out-played, out-classed and out-smarted.

With coach Steve Kearney in camp with New Zealand, Eels chief executive Paul Osborne was yesterday left to answer questions about his club's demise.

"St George Illawarra are the benchmark and that's where we want to get to," Osborne said.

"There is still some work to be done but I am confident we have the right bloke in charge.

"We will get there."

As some fans demand to know why the Eels sacked Daniel Anderson - who took the team to the 2009 grand final - for Kearney, Osborne said: "I am not going into the past. Steve was brought to the club for specific reasons and to do a specific job.

"The results aren't coming on the field but I am seeing a lot of positives off the field.

"Success won't come overnight but it will come. We are building a solid foundation."

Anderson had a solid if unspectacular srecord at Parramatta, winning 25 from 52 games for a success percentage of 48 percent.

Kearney's side is now paying $101 for the title alongside Cronulla and Penrith.

Showing how savagely they have drifted in betting, Parramatta were paying $15 after round one this year.

The Eels are also third favourite (paying $6) to sustain the most losses this season behind Cronulla ($2.25) and Penrith ($4.50).

"Parramatta have been a major disappointment right across the board," Munsie said. "There isn't one player in their side who you could say has been going OK.

"Jarryd Hayne has done slightly less than zero this season."

The Eels are aware they need to urgently bolster their playing roster - hence their desire to sign Chris Sandow (Souths), Tom Symonds (Roosters), Will Hopoate (Manly) and Adam Blair (Storm).

However, Sandow, Symonds and Blair will all reject Parramatta's interest.

Eels star Jarryd Hayne conceded this week: "We have the potential and shouldn't be in the position we are in."

Coach Kearney refuses to be downcast. After the heavy loss on Sunday, he was more than happy to answer media questions and did not look a coach under pressure.

"There is a difference [in the quality of teams] and if we want to be a competitive football team, we've got to be able to compete for the 80 minutes," Kearney said.

He can play FB, or in the Halves. **** he could if really needed play the Wing now apart from Carney but he is ruled out who do NSW have that can play so many Positions.

 

reddy can go along with ben smith, if theyve ever created a try or offloaded the ball ive never seen it. aside from enthusiasm they offer nothing attack wise.
cant agree that all parras boys are playing poorly. hayne was going good. fui and burt have been superb. shackletons been solid since he got back as has mannah

 

hopefully all this publicity will rev them up. The NRL season is a long one and they are only one win out of the eight (though their stats are **** at the moment)

Gidley may be able to play that at club level mate, but at rep level, he is only the teams number one Orange Boy.

 

Maybe they will put in a bid for Carney next...

 

Any news on carney. I have a nasty suspicion he will be back at the roosters next year after a paid year off in a cushy rehab place. I see why pecks calls these ****s the scum.

No doubt mate, when it all goes quiet after something like this you know their plan is to wait out the media attention and after an appropriate period of time start a positive campaign in preparation for him coming back.

Remember when Canberra let him go and the next thing there was a story in the paper about him overseas in some 3rd world country helping the poor locals build a village - the jist of it was "Wow, I'm so amazed by the plight of these poor natives, my eyes have been opened and I truly have matured now that I've seen how tough some people have it and I will never go off the rails again"...and so on...
