There is a Hearn interview on IFL where he says its all real and its down to AJ as there was more money for him in this, he even said they had positive talks and Haymon was on board. He flipped flopped around with his stories so much after this it is laughable, this is when i stopped listening to his interviews and taking people serious who do. Hell even Whyte after he attempted to pimp himself out in America said Hearn was bullshitting on this.

The deal would basically have cut Hearn out apart from his normal promoters fee, they wanted to control the show, again Hearn is on record saying this before finding a narrative to spin, that was the issue here. Sky at the time only had exclusivity for AJ fights taking place in the UK. See how quickly that contact was renegotiated after this offer. So it was an open bid for the fight in the UK, it was never guaranteed to be on BT again that's just nonsense.

This is boxing, its all smoke and mirrors and no promotional team is different from the next, they all want to protect the assets and EVENTUALLY cash them out. We the fans are the mugs who let all this **** fly.

I doubt anyone seriously 'hates' Hearn. That's general forum type stuff. People being sceptical of what Hearn says to protect his assets is just sensible. Anyone with half a brain would know that he as a promoter (same as Warren, Arum or anyone else) will always spin the narrative favourably for his fighters.

He's clearly the best with the media of the lot which counts for an awful lot in this day and age.

100% I dont dislike Hearn anymore than i dislike any other boxing promoter. Hes excellent at controlling the narrative and his skills have to be applauded imo. yes he got given a company by his Dad but he has worked wonders with it and they are huge. He is a modern day boxing promoter with a hint of Don King but the days of me listening to 45 min interviews of bull**** are over.

Yeah, I enjoy him. He's funny, charismatic and gives a good interview. I wouldn't listen to over an hour of it unless I needed something to listen to in the background at work though.

Hearn puts on a good act in front of the camera.

He's upset the fight didn't happen and the saudis are upset with him. He's now lashing out at other promoters to save face and lessen the burden of blame put on him.

He knew about the arbitration but in his over-confidence ignored it.

He didn't want the fight in the USA or UK because he wanted the most money so he went with the saudis and took months to get the deal over the line. In the meantime people questioned the deal and Wilder had to become a ''back up'' plan if the fight fell through.

Joshua now has to fight Usyk who might beat him and Fury will be stronger later on in the year ready to face Joshua in the fall.

I think that's all it came down to. The 3rd fight wasn't removed off the table in December because the contract was already written for it and Wilder became a back up plan to the Joshua fight.

Arum and Fury don't want to pay Wilder 20 million to step aside and rather pay him 15 million to fight him and beat him. Which makes sense.

Hearn is just sour grapes the fight fell through and he wants to ''lash out''. He's pissed off and wants to blame the opposite side when he was the one who was full of promises and was over-confident the fight would happen. He messed up that's all.

Hearn left it really late to make the fight. Every week he said the fight was nearly over the line and it wasn't and if i was a rival promoter i'd be prepared for a back up plan.

    Good post.

The funniest thing is that none of this was done secretively, but people on here are acting like something unusually underhand was done to Hearn.
None of these developments were taking place entirely without warnings, hints or even outright explanations.
It was all happening in plain sight.

But some of the posters with clear pro-Hearn bias and anti-Fury/anti-Arum sentiments on this forum the past week have been acting with outrage about Fury having to face Wilder, like it was some cloak-and-dagger conspiracy.
By boxing standards, this whole affair was very simple and virtually an open book, so Hearn is obviously playing to a certain audience with his interviews and pretense of being duped and naive and all that other crap ....

Hearn's an entertaining and engaging character and boxing would be worse off without him, but it baffles me how grown adults who follow this sport can't see the sheer theatrics of it all.

If the roles were reversed and Hearn was Fury's promoter does anyone believe he wouldn't try extremely hard to find a solution? He certainly wouldn't have given up after 2 days.

Beating the crap out of Wilder again IS a solution.

So why bother with the AJ deal in the first place? Why not at the outset say to matchroom "we need to get this fight with wilder out of the way".

Personally I don't believe Fury wanted to fight Wilder and even with the contract I think it was more him telling MTK and Arum that he wanted the AJ fight rather than wilder.

Just for clarification if Fury fought late 2020 as planned Wilder could have stopped that fight happening?

If he would have allowed Fury to fight that warmup fight would that have nulled his claim for the 3rd right?

They did say that. It wasn't even questioned originally. Wilder triggered the rematch and we all accepted it as happening. It was set for July last year.
Then covid pandemic hit, and when the first wave of lockdowns ended, Fury and his promoters accused Wilder's side of dragging their feet, claimed the contract was invalid and tried to find wriggle room to re-negotiate and free up options. Then it went through court arbitration.
Meanwhile, they looked towards feasibility of the AJ fight and Eddie Hearn went out and made a huge deal of how hard he was working to get the huge deal with the Saudis.
Fury, of course, showed interest, in a one hundred million dollar payday, although his promoters were sceptical.
That too dragged on for months.
This was all happening at the same time.

Then a judge made a ruling. Fury must fight Wilder.
Wilder never wanted step aside money. Not last year. Not this year. He wants to fight Fury. He's a warrior or he's thick as ****, possibly both.

    I don't know.
I assume one of the reasons they fight didn't happen was precisely because of that consideration, and the legal issues.

When the November/December fight fell through (with Kabayel, Takam, whoever), Bob Arum clearly stated in his next interview about Fury, "we will fight Wilder or Joshua next", but at that time he was still saying Pulev would beat Joshua .... and he was saying they want to get Fury in a fight in April 2021 or May at the latest.
I have no reason to doubt that was the plan.
It wasn't until January 2021 that either side in the Fury/AJ potential match was truly convinced the other side was willing to fight each other next.
The world was in covid crisis again, UK was locked down. Arum looked at the money and figured the fight would be virtually impossible to make for the right kind of money, the kind of money Hearn was promising.
And that dragged on and on.
It seems Hearn came good eventually. But he'd cried wolf a few times in the previous months, promising it was all done and virtually sealed, then backtracking a little bit here and there.
But he did get a legit deal sorted eventually.
Then the judge ruling came, so Fury will be fighting Wilder, in a fight that we all knew was being discussed too.

We've been following this saga all year.
So it baffles me why people can't see it now for what it is. They're trying to overcomplicate it with added layers of skullduggery and deceit.

Let’s be fair Fury was never taking the AJ fight off that kind of layoff, you look back at the negativity and it all makes sense after - they were hoping Hearn wouldn’t get the fight on so they didn’t look like they were ducking.

Warren doing everything he can to get Tommy Fury the fight with a YouTuber and failing terribly while this was all going on lol sums the old boy up.

People do see it for what it is lol they wanted none of the fight with AJ, they knew he wouldn’t win off an 18 month layoff and explains all then negativity they had for the fight while team AJ were so positive. I can’t blame Fury for ducking, he knows AJ is a hard fight and it’ll be fairer if they both are coming in at full fitness.

    That doesn't make sense.
No one would accuse them of ducking if they just said "we have a contract to fight Wilder first". Which is what was said last year, after the last fight with Wilder ...... ****, everyone knew about the rematch clause before the 2nd fight ...... nobody who is piping up now was accusing them of ducking when the fight was originally lined up for last July.
    NO ONE.

If they were 100% against the Joshua fight they would have said months ago, "it appears we must fight Wilder next".
They had nothing to gain by pretending to want or be open to the Joshua fight instead.

No one in boxing has ever had to pretend to want a fight they don't want if they are already contracted to another fight.
They don't have to pretend anything. They just say "we are obligated to fight the other guy next".

It's like no one could have accused Andy Ruiz Jr of ducking Wilder after he won the title from Joshua, everyone knows he's contracted to fight Joshua again.
