July 11th, 2012. The September 15 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Josesito Lopez was made official today, as Showtime and Golden Boy Promotions formally announced the fight and the fighters and promoters weighed in. The card will also feature a more intriguing bout in the co-feature, with Jhonny Gonzalez defending the WBC featherweight title against Daniel Ponce De Leon. The fight will receive a major promotional push from Showtime, as they'll be producing an "All Access" feature for the fight, and CBS will help promote the bout, too. Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions "We know the exceptional talent we have in Mexican superstar Canelo, and certainly Josesito Lopez deserves the opportunity to face him after his stunning upset victory over Victor Ortiz on June 23. "It is going to be another prideful Mexican Independence Day weekend for Mexican and Mexican-American fans having their most celebrated fighter, Canelo, fighting that night along with Jhonny Gonzalez and Daniel Ponce De Leon, who are going to deliver their own electrifying championship battle." Can't believe this, Lopez who was fighting @ 140 on September of last year who lost a split decision and then 9 months later fighting @ 147 barely makes the weight and then... 3 months later on September he will be fighting @ 154. :?
Josesito is a young hungry lion, he'll be fine. Canelo is almost the same size as Ortiz and we know how that turned out
dont get how this irish looking mexican have more mexican fans than jc jr. this canelo deserve more of the hate jr. is getting.
Gonzalez Vs. DeLeon!!!! Both fighters ahead of Canelo on the top 30 Mexican fighters list. All Canelo has is popularity, those two (Gonzalez and DeLeon) should get as much recognition as Canelo.
Ya got sloppy seconds. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=13319717&posted=1#post13319717
Or you could go the opposite way and to put positive spin on this: Lopez is the guy who beat Ortiz better than FLoyd did. He earned this payday.:deal This is a no win situation for Canelo and not the fight most of us wanted to see but IMO it will be a good scrap while it lasts. Gonzalez/PDL will make it a worthwhile event.
