All you Euros, check this: your hero David Haye labelled BJ Flores the "next big thing" at Cruiserweight, after sparring with him last year.

Alexeev has not proven a damn thing. I look at his resume and it is devoid of a top 50 opponent. I see his Youtube clips and he has potential, but thats it. The chin of Flores has been tested by D.Wilson. Alexeev, not so much.

I see you are passing judgement but have clearly never seen Flores fight. Because you dont know what the f**k you are talking about with that statement. :tired

Flores can fight moving forward (see Walker fight) or moving laterally w. counterpunching (see D.Wilson fight).

Wlodarchuk, Huck, Enzo, they are your typical plodding Euro pressure fighters. There is no comparison at all

    :patsch

To me its not, maybe overrated.

The only quality fighters in this division is Cunningham and Adamek, but there are quite a few interesting prospects.

The only way this division becomes heavily recogized again is if all the elite fighters at LHW Hopkins,JoeC,Dawson all move up.

200lb is a good weightclass. Not great, but good.

The Heavyweight division is a total joke.

    Very interesting thread!

I quite agree with this thread's creator inasmuch as cruiser weight is one of the most underrated divisions out there.
It for sure is a very competitive division.Match Macca,Cunningham,Jones or Adamek with Kraj,Fragomeni,Huck,Flores,Frenkel,Drozd,Godfrey,Licina,
Tokarev,Brudov,Braithwaithe,Subos,Hide,Wlodarczyk,or Hernandez and you will be able to watch extremely competive fights.None of the aforementioned fighters would be a huge underdog against the likes of Cunningham,Macca,or Jones.
On top of that all Alexeev will soon be the undisputed king of the hill.
An outstanding banger with very few weak spots.Who can really hold a candle to him??

I had a good laugh when reading the posts of some optimistic posters here who thought that that old geezer Hopkins could rule the roost if he moved up to cruiser.
Or Calzaghe. The size difference would be too big.Whats more Alexeev fights at cruiser. He worthy of any top dog's steel.Dawson and Calzaghe would find themselves in very hot water against Alexeev.I for one wouldnt bet a single coin on neither the Brit nor the American against the former Russian amateur star.

And those 2 have good chins.

Is Alexeev their brother? Even if he was, theres one difference between Wlad and Vitali. Ill let you guess what that is

Eric Fields.... But he was stopped by an up and coming Cruiser by the name of Ola Afolabi...

    After Adamek and Cunningham, there's.................

Mormeck, Maccarenelli, Braithwaite, Flores, Guillermo Jones, Alexeev, Huck, Tokarev, Hide, Godfrey, Banks, Arslan, Nakash (was just in philly recently, definitely has promise...), Yoan Hernendez.... I might be missing a name or 3 mainly cause their Polish and I can't spell them or cause "The Contender" is on the third or fourth fight... It's been proven when 2 really good cruisers fight each other you get great fights... The good thing is that for the most part, they're not afraid to fight each other...

Fields and Williams are young and still got time to improve.... Remember, David Haye was knocked out before early in his career...

This is a good division.... Probably my favorite...

Well, you tried to make a point with your statement.Flores is a good and promising fighter.I quite agree with you.
Nevertheless,"your typical plodding european pressure fighters"
Huck,Wlodarczyk and Macca have collected the better scalps up to now.

As for Alexeev he has a proven track record at the amateurs. He was Solis' big amateur rival, brutally knocked out silver medal winner Zuev, and defeated dozens of excellent fighters at the amateurs.
So far he has only fought for a relatively short period of time at the pros.He has a very decent record, but lacks truly good names among his scalps.I am positive that he will soon beat some good names with good reputations black and blue.
I am sold on him. However, you are entitled to a different opinion.

For me, the fact that it is competitive makes this a good division. From a Brit perspective, we may even get another domestic tear up with Enzo v Hide.

Hide wants to be the 1st man to win a HW and then go for a CW title.

    Does anyone think he can?

He has to get by Matt Godfrey to do that.... Hoping Fragomeni still has the title and assuming Hide beats Godfrey, then I think Herbie can do it....

I hope they air Hide/Godfrey over here... ESPN~!!

    Not this guy again.

I dont know if the division is under or overrated but historically it has always been the ******* division of Boxing.

My point was that Flores has mixed with top 10 competition and won. He also had his chin tested by a top banger at 200lb.

Alexeev has not, but those other russians have. Whats so hard to understand?

Amir Khan is a former amateur star of Alexeevs caliber. See how little that means in pro boxing?

That may or may not be true. In Fraudinellis case it is definitely false. My point there was Flores being a natural counterpuncher who can fight 2-ways. Unlike the above fighters.

TFFP has never seen Flores outside of boxrec.com, so he would not know the difference

Joe wouldn't make it against Top Cruiserweights.... its not just cause he's too small.. But those slappy punches ain't gonna work up there....

Dawson will be a Cruiserweight eventually..... I think Gary Shaw or whoever his promoter is said that Dawson could be a good heavyweight... And that was when he was at 160.... Dawson will probably have the most success at cruiserweight of the names mentioned...

Hopkins, even if he were to carefully cherry pick, would have a tough time... I could see him going for Fragomeni.... But against guys like Adamek and Cunningham, he wouldn't fair so good... Even though they're bigger guys, they'd do the same thing that Taylor and Calzaghe did.... outwork him... Even Mormeck at this day in age could pull out a victory against Hopkins...

I think Lucian will be a Cruiserweight sometime in his career....

Kessler will be a Super Middle forever~!! He might have some success at Light Heavy but Cruiserweight is really pushing it....
