Considered Greb, but thought his greatness was in the 1920s where I listed him #2 after Leonard. I would have placed Tommy Gibbons at 21, but stopped at 20, since I didn’t think he should be placed in the top 10 of that era. Everyone else I thought had a shot.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Greb went 147-9-15 in the 1910s. He ended the decade 73-0-3 as he was coming into his prime. He beat Battling Levinsky x 6 (including when outweighed 10-15lbs), Jeff Smith x 3 (including when outweighed by 9lbs), Jack Dillon x 2, Billy Miske (outweighed by 19lbs), Mike McTigue x 2, Mike Gibbons (1-1), Wille KO Brennan x 3, Buck Crouse, Gus Christie x 3, Willie Meehan x 2 (inlcuding when outweighed by 32.5lbs), Eddie McGoorty, Bob Moha x 3, Clay Turner x 5, Leo Houck x 3 & Bill Brennan x 4 (including when outweighed by 26lbs). It''s extraordinary dominance over a wide range of high quality fighters, he's #1 in the decade for me.

Tommy Gibbons went 47-0-2 in the 1910s. He beat Greb, 15lbs heavier Battling Levinsky, Billy Miske x 2, Willie KO Brennan, Buck Crouse, Gus Christie x 4, George Chip x 5, Clay Turner x 2 and Bob Moha. I rank his record as the 4th greatest in the decade.

I agree Tommy Gibbons was an excellent fighter. But he kept beating the same people as you point out. As you know, George Chip was a middleweight and he kept beating him. He fought and kept beating Gus Christie four times, also a middleweight, who lost, I believe 17 times before losing to Gibbons. Gibbons had good wins, but never a champion. I realize that fighters fought much more often at the turn of the 20th century but some of his fights seem like padding his record. In any event, Tommy Gibbons was a tough and Hall Of Fame boxer. Of all the boxers during that ten year span in all weight divisions, I ranked Tommy Gibbons one spot below Mike Gibbons at 21. But I don’t think he was one of the top ten boxers during that decade.

I'm gonna allow volunteers to keep working on 1910s list an extra week.

Gonna try and get an Inoue-Fulton preview out before I get to this.

Thanks, but no need to worry. I comb through every post start to finish for every edition, which is my own fault entirely, because I originally was thinking of a single deadline. I'm sure this thing will be a few dozen pages longer by the time I reach the 1990s.

I believe I have 7 to go. I'll officially close the 1910s approximately 48 hours from this post.

If anyone else wants to make submissions until that time, please feel free to do so.
