Whilst I think Chris John is way too high, it's refreshing to see someone who doesn't have Donaire in their top ten, as he is totally unjustified at being ranked so highly by The Ring. Haye for me is no.10 too. I'd have Vic still in the top 10 (no. 9?) and move everyone else up a place.

Chris John is very consistent, but his resume still isn't great regardless of whether you think he won the JMM fight or not. Still, good list, better than The Rings :good

 

How can people have Wlad K in a P4P list?

He's only good, because of his size.

In a P4P sense he'd get knocked out by anybody in the top 50 of a P4P list.

This doesn't make sense.

To your first point, I assume Lennox should've been nowhere near the top of a P4P list??? Regardless of your opinions on Wlad (I personally feel he is scared of getting hit and has a super boring style) he has beaten some fair-to-decent challengers over the past 12 months, which is the kinda form which makes him viable for the list. It's not a case of 'who's the best out of the smaller guys', it's who is the most effective fighter across the board.

Wlad is up there, no doubt. I haven't ranked him for the reasons I stated above. I don't like to watch him fight and although decent, his opponents haven't exactly been startling (although the Chagaev win is pretty much better than anything Chad Dawson has done, so really he is more than deserving of a spot)

I think you've misunderstood the meaning of P4P to be honest. Wlad is a dominant fighter who is difficult to beat for many, and regardless of his size, is one of the most dominant fighters in boxing today, despite his cautiousness, you have to admire his dedication, fitness and ability to stick to a gameplan.

For me, that means he warrants a place, even if I haven't placed him myself :good

 

Cheers, Flea:good. I feel the same way: people rate Donaire so highly because he's purely 'the man who beat the man who went on to bigger things'. He still has a lot to prove, IMO- much like Juanma. Juanma's placing in these lists is always very contentious as well, though.

I've put John in on longevity and consistency in his own division- much like Wlad in that respect. I toyed with Hasegawa, but I think others are more deserving of a spot in the top 15. Purely subjective, though.

I've put Wlad in my list as a result of domination of the division he is in- he doesn't have the luxury of being able to move up or down weight classes as he's so God damn big. Yeah, he's beat the Thompsons and the Rahmans of this world, but some of his wins are pretty solid. Not putting him in would be like berating Calderon for staying south of flyweight, IMO.

 

I don't think his resume is very good, because his competition is very weak.

And what I'm saying is, in a P4P head to head sense where Wlad is the same size as everybody else in the top 50 P4P list, he'd get knocked out by them (apart from the feather fists who'd outbox him).

 

1st Bold: I agree entirely. Whilst I feel bad for Donaire's promotional disputes making him fail to capitalise on a great victory, Vic went on to draw (in my eyes beat) a soli contender in Gorres, destroy a decent (if feather fisted) ABC 'champ' in Kirilov', and then dismantle one of the most impressive and hard to beat fighters of the lower weights of the last ten years (IMO, based on the Munoz, Navarro and Arce fights) in Mijares. Lost a decision to Agbeko, but theres no shame in that, Vic was just a little too small for 118 and went back to his old style of trying to smash his way through predictably rather than using his improved defence and awkward counter punching to outthink King Kong.

For me, I usually go on 12 months. The last 12 months, what has this person done? hence my lofty ranking of Hasegawa (blew away several mandatories) and exclusion of Donaire (struggled a few times, stopped a fringe contender) and non-ranking of Vasquez/Marquez (only had tune-ups)

 

Doesn't make sense whatsoever. Totally irrelevant, that is not what P4P means. P4P is judging fighters fairly based on their achievments/stylistic attributes within their own weight division. Anyway, how do you know that a (still tall for the weight) 5'9 Bantam Wlad couldn't protect his chin against the likes of Agbeko? And does that mean you don't think Caballero is any good, because he is really tall for 122?
