Toney was different. He was a hard man on the streets, DeGale's not got that mean streak. He's callous and a bit of a bully, but Toney was a thug with serious emotional problems. He wasn't confident, he was intimidating.

I'm not saying he's wilting under the pressure or anything, but it's clear he's not really all that confident. He's capable and knows what he's doing, but he was most painful to watch just there. Not funny, not scathing, just babyish.

In terms of who came across better, well Groves came across as a little exasperated by the whole thing. And I think he was right to pull Nelson up for the way he flip-flops on his opinion.

That was a quality, its not quite up to Benn-Eubank standards yet but it will grow & grow. These 2 make fun of each other but Benn looked like he wanted to tear his head off & Eubank wanted "parliamentry procedure".

Groves seemed well prepared, was fairly composed & had the better 1-liners. DeGale wasnt as impressive, though I did laugh at some of the things he said. Uv got no chin bruv, uv got no fans.

Just because he's not off the streets or 'mean' it doesn't mean he's not very confident. My point with Toney was not that they're the same people, or even that they project themselves in the exact same way, only that just because they try what we'd consider overly hard does not automatically mean they're compensating.

I guess in a way, that childish persona DeGale has is just him. Just as Toney is a bit unbalanced. I wouldn't say thats an indication either. They're just personality traits. He talks in a certain pitch, says certain things, but its the inner steel that really matters.

Everything I've seen from him so far in his career suggests he's confident up to this level. The only time he's looked a bit unsure is when he was booed and to be honest that was rightly so as it was disgraceful treatment. He's come on a long way since then and I think if there were any doubts about turning pro and his own ability he's masked them. Whereas Groves would be right to have doubts underneath the surface because he's been down and hurt against a less talented fighter than what he's facing here.

The main difference was that Groves seemed to be taking it all really seriously, as if a few words wrong here and there would really hurt his chances in the fight. DeGale was just playing, and enjoying it as Groves got more and more wound up. DeGale realises that talk is cheap and don't mean a damn thing come fight night. And he knows he has Groves' number -- so he doesn't need scriptwriters for the press conferences. He'll write the script for the fight just the way he wants it.

To play Devils Advocate you can say that Groves has shown what he can do when things arn't going for him in a fight, DeGale hasn't. Of course the other side to that is that DeGale hasn't had to show what he can do........

Still shows a fighters mentality whereas DeGale has been getting away with with sloppy wins.

    Like I say, "Devils Advocate".....

His fight with Smith wasn't too sloppy. It's mostly against people that don't come to fight he looks a bit sloppy as his power isn't top notch and his punch technique...well...

So he struggles to put poor fighters away when outclassing them.

Groves has more holes in his defence than the finest Swiss cheese. Groves hate for DeGale, their hate for each other, the fact they're both winners guarantees these two are coming with the mindset to win so I expect them both to have opportunities here. It's going to be an open fight where the winner will impress.

The Dark Lord will have GG in his bed now, repeating his mantras....

    Must not get emotionally involved
    Must not get emotionally involved
    Must not get emotionally involved
    Adam Booth is my master
    Adam Booth is my master

I reckon the best way for JDG to get at Groves is the Booth angle.really go for it, like a pitbull:

Say how he ain't his own man, he cant make a decision, he's basically a brainwashed kid. predict what he's gonna say before he says it (not too hard), compare the likenesses, talk about the way Adam is grooming him, use that word. tell him when it comes down to it and he loses or even when Haye retires, His Dark Master will drop him like a stone. He ain't ****, he's a pet project on the side. George will never be in charge of his life, he's a dog, following his Dark Master. Adam Booth says throw 25 punches this round, George, you will.
And you what George, if you look at me, you know I'm right. you never wanted this but its too late now. AB has you hooked dude. It's like Scientology, you can never leave and be the same, so you'll have to ride it out now. But you cant Georgie, it's not in your nature, you're lost bruv. And you know this.
Remember how you felt when Anderson smacked you and put you down? "oh **** Adam never said this would happen..."

I'm here, saying what I want dude, you're repeating what Adam has drilled into you(no homo). You're not a Haye and he's trying to turn you into one. He doesn't give a **** about you, you know that. Remember those one-on-one conversations you had with booth...creeped you out didn't they George, you know you don't want to be alone with him. He wants your soul, he knows you aint fully giving it over though and you wont, not till i beat you anyway.
Same with David Haye bruv, he was the same before Thompson. After I KO you, you'll sell your heart to him and never be a full man again.
    Hey George, who's your trainer?
    Hey George, who's your Manager?
    Hey George, who's your Promoter?

You're a child George,I see it in your eyes, I see it in the way you carry yourself, the way your sitting. you want to impress Adam dont you George? but why? you cant even explain it yourself? he's a powerful dude, you get me, your a kid bruv, trying to take initiative but you cant, u know? yeah you know
That's right, tell me how you ain't gonna get emotionally involved. Did Adam tell you that? Did he get you to read Laws of Power? Did he get you to read Art of War?
Run along now boy, your master's waiting for you...

he should quote that, verbatim next time they meet or at a press conference
